I need a sort of checklist on topic to learn, from engine management to dogfight strategy. I want to learn to fly this beast

What type of things are you interested in learning?

I think the most difficult aspect to learn is the unique handling. Going through the campaign and really nailing all the missions is a great start.

well, if you hop on with Dogs of War, there are a lot of great guys that are more than willing to help people learn the mustang.

Engine management is fairly simple once you understand the basics, never let it overheat, and how open/closing the dampers affects speed and heat.

I agree with Kahn in the fact that the Unique Handling is probably the hardest aspect to learn, I still encounter issues in multiplayer turn fighting with wingstalls/wingovers due to the torque roll effect.

Dogfighting strategy is also a hard concept, the hardest part is understanding Advantage, and Energy state (Referred to commonly as 'E' or Potential 'E'), you also have to understand dogfighting is a fluid concept, as Potential E is constantly changing, and E also directly correlates to Engine management. Altitude will always give you more Potential Energy, but just because you have more Potential E doesn't necessarily give you Advantage if you don't understand how to mange your energy.

In a Dogfight, one of the biggest aspects, and often a determining factor in the winner of the fight is the Merge. In a Co-Altitude, Head-On merge between 2 P-51D's going 300mph at max continuous, both pilots have the same Potential and True Energy. From there it becomes who knows how to manage energy better, and can also predict the other pilots maneuvering and take advantage of the Energy State.

yeah it's pretty awesome, it's an automatism now..i do it long time

i noticed it tend to vibrate for a second and half then it stalls if i turn.

seems like it can't handle high g loads in turns.

How do you solve this?

Be easy on the stick. Never yank back as hard as you can in an instant.

Otherwise, maneuver outside the plane of the aircraft you are fighting.

I try to stay on the edge..i let it vibrate slightly without going into stall..that is the trick i think

I think it depends from the profile and how turbulence develop from the wing..it lose lift in a matter of sec :)

to be good at something you need to practice. read the manual cover to cover. Then join online squadron of equal talented eager learners, then practice aerobatic maneuvers, then read Shaw's bible, then practice, then practice some more. People think its second nature. It only becomes so after a lot of practice with sound foundation.

Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.

The Mustang will learn ya whether you want it or not. It'll first teach you what NOT to do. You're left with options after that, most of which are okay if you learned from her well.

She's heavy, doesn't like low speeds, and pulls hardest when flying fast. We all want to stay in the fight, but there are times when you must dive and break away in the opposite direction.

So, in addition to keeping your speed up, and keeping the engine cool, keep some altitude in reserve. Altitude allows you to trade it for speed in a dive, and allows you to come down on low power (when safe) to quickly cool that engine you forgot to watch.

Always try to leave a way out.

The Mustang is the most honest and pleasant flying World War II fighter in the game.

Answers to most important questions ATC can ask that every pilot should memorize:

1. No, I do not have a pen. 2. Indicating 250

of course Headhunter52. Altitude is life..it is very hard to move the stick when @high speed plus it stalls like butter when you pull low gs..and if you force it at high speed, wings get broken! :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
