bSr.LCsta Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 what happens if the cannon jams on a combat mission? Do they have to RTB or can it be fixed in the field? is this ok?
hitman Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 Most a/c have a gun clearing mechanism that spins the barrel in reverse to clear the breach. If it continues to jam then I guess it depends on how serious the damage is to the gun. The 30mm chain gun is very prone to sand in the reciever and inside the barrel, and causes the round to jam inside the barrel. In THAT case then it has to go to depot maintenance and have installed either a new gun alltogether or have a barrel mated to the reciever.
D-Scythe Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 It was proven in combat to kill more friendlies than the enemy. IT had more break downs than OJ simpson, and it is a big steaming pile of brown. And the Cobra has been through it all since the early 70s. Face it...the Apache sucks. The only thing "to face" here is the fact that you have no idea what you're talking about. The fact that you even thought that Lockheed built Boeing just shows how misinformed and utterly biased towards the Cobra you are.
Sleek Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 I don't think u'd be saying the Apaches is a pile of brown if u had these unloading at ya! ...in fact i think ur pant's would turn brown lol! ;) http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-9151988937046207249&q=Apache Be Good..Be Strong..:drink: ;)

Ok so one little slipup over who manufactures the pile makes me stupid? You can look for "yourself" over how poor the performance on the Apache and how poor the Cobra performs and I will bet you the cobra has done better over the past 30 some odd years than the apache has in the last 20!! And you cant tell me that youve never heard of the Apache being grounded because of the avionics, the FLIR and targeting pods on that aircraft were spoiled because condensation built up on the lens. Its a piss poor aircraft and you know it.
NEODARK Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 Another day another thread.. woohoo.. quit this crap already, this is what makes this forum annoying sometimes. Just get over the fact that someone has a different opinion about something, and you are not going to change their minds whether you are right or wrong. can we all just get along?
hitman Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 This is one of MANY examples as of why I dislike the apache. http://www.flight-level.com/dogfight/apache.html Its a large video taken in the first Gulf War. So yeah. I DO know a little something about the Apache. Jump the gun again, D.
Jay Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 The AH64 has a good IR shielding system at the exhaust...so i think it will work a bit...but......when the missile is close..i dont know Generally speaking the "IR shielding system" as you call it guys is a cooler (radiator like) of the exhaust fumes to lower its IR signature. It is a passive system that works all the time when attached to exhausts. It's being used for both transport and attack copters. Active systems (according to their effectivity) are flare dispensers, then more effective IR jammers and (in near future) directional laser shield (it's rumoured that Airforce One uses it). It's obvious that you think you're speaking facts here, when, you really aren't. BTW, I never said you were stupid, just really, really, really, really...really...biased.
hitman Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 Ok I dont understand how posting the facts that are obvious here and not know "of" them. Biased? Your damn right its biased. Its biased because you NEVER hear about how Marines get shot at by their own air support. The facts are there, D, and either you refuse to accept it or your being biased as well on this. You would be biased too if your air support took out your platoon. And the Cobra IS more combat proven than the Apache, bar none. Biased or not.
Guest Cali Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 Another day another thread.. change their minds whether you are right or wrong. can we all just get along? We had a "can we all just get along" poll, by the way what happened to it?
