gary palmer Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 Hi, have Windows 7-64bit running DCS World1.5Beta with my Nvidia GTX770 Graphic card. Can someone tell what is the best 'stable' driver version with my setup. Currently using 359.06 driver and it is not stable. Maybe someone out there with same setup may have some idea of which driver version is trouble free. Thankyou in advance....Gary
dburne Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 No problems here with 359.06, should be fine for you with that 770 as well. Give 359.00 a try and see how they do. I would suggest after uninstalling the Nvidia drivers, do a driver sweep with DDU ( Display Driver Uninstaller) in safe mode, then reboot and install the new drivers. I would also suggest only installing the actual driver and PhysX , uncheck the other items. Hope this helps, Don B EVGA Z390 Dark MB | i9 9900k CPU @ 5.1 GHz | Gigabyte 4090 OC | 64 GB Corsair Vengeance 3200 MHz CL16 | Corsair H150i Pro Cooler |Virpil CM3 Stick w/ Alpha Prime Grip 200mm ext| Virpil CM3 Throttle | VPC Rotor TCS Base w/ Alpha-L Grip| Point Control V2|Varjo Aero|
gary palmer Posted December 19, 2015 Author Posted December 19, 2015 Thanks for that dburne. I have just recently done a fresh install of Windows7-64bit and am about to reinstall to DCS World 1.5beta (before was using version 1.2). I have installed Nvidia driver 359.06 and after a bit of research on net it seems somewhat problematic for users of Windows10...so was wondering how it goes with W7+DCS+359.06 combination. I have installed with just only driver and physX and really dislike that GeForce Experience software. It can cause BSOD with it Nvidia Streamer service which must be disabled in Services and seems to like making update not your choice, even if you configure it not to update. Really is GeForce bad experience. I believe DCS World 1.5beta is about to be made into a stable release (non-beta) and was wondering how have you found its stability? Also did you or have you used it with 359.06? Thanks again...Gary
dburne Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 Yes I am using 359.06 and it is very stable for me. I have been running 1.50 OB since it came out, the latest version of 1.5 has been very stable for me. gary palmer Posted December 20, 2015 Author Posted December 20, 2015 Thanks Don...that is good info and reassuring for me. I like to do my homework before I install DCS1.5 OB...saves a lot of frustration trying to solve crashes, bsod etc. I do not know if you can answer this but how do you think my rig would cope with extra demands of the 1.5 and it new graphical engine? Of course it may be less demanding as the software may be more efficient and streamlined? dburne Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 (edited) I would say it is going to handle it fairly well, even at the 1440p I would think you will get smooth gameplay out of it. DCS Edge makes much better use of the graphics card with DX11, finally we have a combat flight sim that uses that graphics card we pay good money for. Were you running DCS 1.2 previously? There was overall a large improvement in performance for most in 1.5, due to the new Edge engine. How much ram does your video card have? If it is the 2gb version, you may want to turn down some graphics detail like in the draw distance to keep things smooth. But you should be fine. On my system I have a 4gb GTX 970, and with most graphics maxed out I regularly use around 3.5 gb of vram. But that is in 2.0 and Nevada. 1.5 after the last update runs around 2.3 gb. TwilightZone Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 also using driver 359.06 with no problems. agree with dburne's advice......make sure old drivers are deleted and swept clean.....leftover junk from old drivers can mess up graphic performance of new drivers installed..........:-) P-51, 190-D9, 109-K4, Spitfire MK IX, Normandy, and everything else:joystick: i7 4770K, 4.3ghz, 32gb ram, Windows-10 Pro, Z87 Exstreme4, Corsair 850w psu, Samsung Evo 1T SSD & 250 SSD, Titan-X 12gb OC, Asus ROG Swift 27"/1440p/144hz/1ms monitor, Trackir 5, TM Warthog & 10cm extension, Saitek TPM, MFG crosswind pedals
gary palmer Posted December 20, 2015 Author Posted December 20, 2015 thx Don...glad to hear the new graphics engine of DCS World is more efficient and streamlined for GPU to deal with+DX11. yes was running DCS1.2 before and its older graphics engine. my GPU is: ASUS GeForce GTX770 DirectCU II OC 2GB onboard RAM ..like the Asus quiet and well built quality wise. regarding RAM my physical RAM is: Kingston Hyperx 16GB (8GB x 64-Bit x 2) DDR3L-1600 and my page file is set to 8GB. Windows set it to automatic at 16GB which most seem to think is excessive and a space hogger much like the hibernation file which I have also removed. By the way if you go the Windows10 down track it does not crash when RAM hits the roof ... so no crashes...instead it will pause the game and notify you to make changes such as hardware, vram or shutting down other applications. i do not bother with any kind of overclocking as stability issues are not worth all the bother often for very little gain. I should mention that I only run DCS on one monitor though I have a dual monitor setup so card only has to deal with the one monitor. plan to leave DCS2.0 for about a year or so as it is too alpha/beta at this point and I guestimate it will take that long to be really sorted. have purchased the Nevada test range but will need to shelve it until then. Just got the Mirage 2000 which only works with 1.5 onward not 1.2 I will have to experiment with settings once I am up and running after install.
dburne Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 Let us know what you think of it and how it runs for you when you get it up and running. gary palmer Posted December 24, 2015 Author Posted December 24, 2015 Using DCS 1.52xxxxs and settings close to max the Nvidia 77OGTX is fine. No clamping, stutter or crash etc. Can really crisp up and sharpen the quality by manipulating the DOF (depth of field settings) with Notepad as : http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=154950 The 306.59 driver is fine and I think my PC is slightly more responsive for it...seems snappier. Was using 331.82 before. Newer graphical engine in 1.5.2xxxx seems more efficient at processing video for this game. I am using same settings as 1.2 but getting a much sharper smoother game experience. Only thing is my modules do not have serials listed?? ...but all installed and play fine. Occasionally the game exits as I travel from the options window to the main UI where all planes images at bottom of screen. Happens 5% of the time. Figure it is a bug for DCS to sort. Had some updater issues initially but found going the torrent download seemed less hassle as it stopping as in HTTP download for update updater. Updating to the newest updater helped too. I installed 356.09 well before the game. Attached is the DOF change how to .. copy the original DOF file somewhere safe beforehand. Thanks .. GaryDepth of field and Vaseline external view.zip
