I have been trying to fly the A10 for a week or three now and have found that often the pitch bars on the HUD get skewed off to one side of the display.

 

Why is that?

Cross wind - as pitch ladder is caged to your velocity vector sum (flight path marker FPM) on HUD.

So what do you do to correct it, use rudder or wing down or something else?

 

Well crosswind effects are usually negated with rudder, so yeah use the rudder to get back on course and your HUD will correct. Alternatively if you don't mind 'crabbing' around over land, you can move your head to look at it from the side :)

Nothing. You're flying a bit 'sideways' with respect to the ground, but straight with respect to the air mass.

 

Attempting to correct it will only increase your drag and add beta. Generally such corrections are made only at landing and takeoff, in normal flight you simply adjust your heading do that you're going where you want to go, and leave things be.

Well usually you just point the TVV (total velocity vector) where you want to go and ignore the offset.

 

In certain situations when you need to match nose heading and TVV (e.g. landing) you'd use rudder and ailerons to point the nose where you want it to (slip).
