Ok well I know this is probably in the tutorial.. but i cant stand the way LOMAC does tutorials... there are just few really simply questions which can be quickly answered and save me time in looking for specific tutorial or looking through the manual. And it usually doesnt answer specific questions just covers topics broadly.. so ehre i can atually ask what exactly I need eliminating anything I already know/dont need.

here we go..

1) How do you know where the pre programed waypoint is? Is it a cross ?

2) Ok so there are 5 different modes for AtoA... i kinda understand them but not really...

2is beyond visual range - well no matter how much I have tried I can never seem to lock on to anything. Whats the range on this (im guessing depends on missles right?) How do you get it to lock on to things?

3is Vertical Scan mode - whats this i manage to lock with it but when is it really supposed to be used?

4is Close Air combat Bore mode... what the hell is Bore mode? I seem to be able to lock with this one but when shouold it really be used?

5is Target disegnation mode - im not sure but Im guessing this is for when you have multiple targets? How do you work this thing? Lock onto 1 fire then lock on to another fire etc? or is it lock, lock then fire, fire?

6is Longitudial middle aim mode - again.. whats this and when is it supposed to be used?

7- tutorial was great with thsi one I get it no need to explain

8- Grid mode - whats this.. i dont even know what it does =/

3) Missles... any rule of thumb on knowing which missle to use for what or just have to memorize?

so those are my main questions... I m however looking for some tips...

for example... with A10 when you are using tomahawk or w/e they are called air->ground missles with the TV... how the hell are you suposed to lock on to things? things are flying by SOoooo fast on that screen . especially how are you supposed to take out Shilkas when your range is barelly outside their range and by the time you lock on you are in their range and get creamed.

and Joystick question... I use Attack3 from Logitech... its pretty sweet.. question is... when you let go of the joystick is it supposed to bring the plane into neutral position or no? Mine doesnt.. for some reason I think tahst how its supposed to be but I just wanna make sure.

and last thing... im Russian and am into Migs/Su's ... but jesus christ after flying F15C... its like F15c just glides through the air smoothly turns and stuff as if it was born to fly... Su27 and Mig29 tho WOW like a rock with wings... anyone else feel that way? any comments? what do people generally prefer or is it pretty spread out? I did notice that Mig/Su are more maneuverable so I guess there are tradeoffs. Also I speak/read/write fluently in English and Russian... I fly with Native betty and Rus hood etc.. but still F15c seems to be sooo much more user friendly especially with the radar (and if the waypoint indicator is what I think is it then wow thats genious)... although the whole missle pannel on F15c is kinda wierd... again I see the tradeoffs (i might be just being a noob) but I think Migs and Sus are mostly hardware stuff where alot of F15 is electornics so if EMP goes off bai bai F15c Migs and Sus dominate the sky... (i might be completely wrong)... but yeah...

thx for any feedback ahead of time :) and sry for being a lazy ass and botherin ya =D

Ok, im really new to this game and all.. plus I rarely fly american birds but.. I'll try answer as much as I can..

First off please watch all the tutorials again so your memory freshens up..

2is beyond visual range - well no matter how much I have tried I can never seem to lock on to anything. Whats the range on this (im guessing depends on missles right?) How do you get it to lock on to things?

You have to change at what direction the radar is looking to find an enemy, see your key configuration how to do this, also you can "zoom in and out" with the radar (sorry all, i dont know the correct terms  ) The more you zoom out the longer you will be able to see, and the lower zoom the closer to your aircraft you will be watching, Its generally OK to start with a rather zoomed out mode until you spot someone, and as he gets closer you zoom in to see if hes alone or not.

They will on the american radar screen appear as a small block and in the middle of the little screen theres a symbol looking somewhat like this " || "

You have to take that and put it over the little block thing so the radar knows what you want to lock, once its over it, hit tab. If the conditions are right and everything works, you will get a lock and you will clearly see it on your HUD.

The range of which you are able to lock someone does not depend on the missile, but other conditions such as your altitude and his altitude etc. However once you have a lock then yes, the range which you are able to fire at will depend on the missile ^_^

Vertial scan and Bore mode is CAC, Close Air Combat modes, you are supposed to use them if an enemy gets too close to make use of your radar in a effecient way.. I cant tell you the exact difference between these 2 on a US bird tho

The target designation mode on the russian birds are the helmet target designator, the US does not have this. soo again, i dont know.

The '6' on russian planes are used when your radar/hud or whatever fails, perhaps after getting hit by a missile.. You can use this mode to target someone at close distance directly via the seeker on IR missiles instead of using the onboard systems, afaik this is to only be used during a such condition and you should refrain from using it if everything is working fine

for example... with A10 when you are using tomahawk or w/e they are called air->ground missles with the TV... how the hell are you suposed to lock on to things? things are flying by SOoooo fast on that screen . especially how are you supposed to take out Shilkas when your range is barelly outside their range and by the time you lock on you are in their range and get creamed.

The A-10 maverick missiles are sort of fun.. Basically, there are 2 types of them. IR and TV but they work essentially the same but are used in different conditions

If you ever watched the tutorial explaining the A-10, this should already be pretty clear to you, but what you do is pretty much to bring up the ground attack mode, select your mavericks and the display to your right will fire up showing what the missiles see and a big cross in the middle, you need to get the cross above your target and hit the lock key, if locked properly it will align (the cross) automagically towards the target and I think theres a small indicator that starts blinking when its a good lock

And if you think its too hard, too little time getting it done, you need to either

a) Get faster :joystick: or b) Get some distance between you and the enemy so you have plenty of time

A good idea is to map the controls to your joystick

Again, if anything is inaccurate (most of it? :)) i appologise, but maybe it might be a bit useful :|

what version do you have? bc the training mission in lofc teaches all the basic you need to fly, some of the tracks you have to back to the original Flaming cliff version in order to play it, after you have learned the stuff, just patch it to 1.12a again. build up your interest first, then you will want to know more and patiently sit down to read your manual.

the russian birds lack the auto trim system that the eagles have, therefore during the flight, you will feel them not as smooth as the eagles, you have to manually trim them, constantly.

There is an F-15 training page on my web site

which explains all the modes with pictures, text and typical key strokes. Hope it helps.

Thanks for all the feedback... i think i understand most stuff now... about the tomahawk tho.. i know how to do it... its just seems VERY VERY hard..

like... if i increase the range between and the enemy they are so small that I cant see them. And if I zoom in with the TV then everything is flying so fast on the screen that I can lock on to anything its on the TV then 0.001 seconds later its gone.. thats why I was asking for tips for maybe there is an easier way like auto seek/lockon or osmething..

Uh. MAVERICK. Is it so hard to remember? ;)

Ground stabilize it (lock onto the ground) and then move the pipper around. It'll lock onto a target automatically once you point the seeker at it (ie. put it in the crosshairs of the TV).

As for the 120's, depends on your altitude ... easy 10km, possibly 20km if you're lucky at low altitudes, as far as 70km in a high-high shot.

Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D

ok but my question was more of "should i use 120's under 10km range" or at that point I should be using other missles like Aim9?

AIM9 is a short-ranged missile ... will work for some 2nm head-on (4nm high-alt) and about 1nm tail-on, less if the bandit is high-speed.

what about AIM120? and AIm7 I thin kthe other one is

mid and low alt, aim120 and aim7 around 10-15nm, high, around 20-25nm.

you will also notice, aim7 is shorter at mid and low than aim120, but the aim7 has higher increasing rate of range increasement with alt increasing than the aim120, therefore aim 7 will have longer range than aim120 after certain alt.
