Anatoli-Kagari9 Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 (edited) In this movie: [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBLjYGLlklo[/ame] the pilot describes, at least twice, how he used a snap-roll to escape Bf109s on his 6, around 04:50. In the DCS P51d, the snap-roll maneuver doesn't always result this good... [ame] [/ame] but can look OK on other circumstances... fastfreddie Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Try pulling the stick back all the way to the back right while hitting full right rudder (you are using rudder pedals I hope). You will get the effect your probably looking for and a drop of speed of 75-100+ mph. Be careful using this maneuver especially under 1000 ft and to be honest I think that show your referring to makes things look too clean plus some other things that are off from reality to visual effects. This maneuver is really a last ditch effort not to be used often because smart pilot will just simply pull up and return in an even better position. I've had more success with it in the Dora when at higher altitudes where I simply wanted to escape several enemies and could afford to let it stall/descend several hundred feet.
ShuRugal Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 one thing to keep in mind is that History Channel animations, while pretty, almost never reflect actual air maneuvering. This is a real-life example of what a snap roll looks like: Now, on actually doing one: In your video, you appear to be attempting to roll right. Since this is the direction the prop turns, you are fighting the engine toque (and buddy, there's a lot of it) to do this. At your power setting in the video, a right-hand snap is impossible. if you want to keep power applied, snap left.
ED Team NineLine Posted January 12, 2016 ED Team Posted January 12, 2016 Yeah, I am not sure I would use the History Channel vid to judge your or the modules flying capabilities :) Forum Rules • My YouTube • My Discord - NineLine#0440• **How to Report a Bug**
ShuRugal Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 I've just made a quick video demonstrating a few snap rolls in the Mustang. I perform two to the left, and two to the right. Note that all of my rolls began at or above 250 MPH, and ended between 150 and 200 mph. It is very important to not attempt to snap below 250 MPH, as you final speed may well end up below stall speed for your load and altitude. Note also that as I pull the stick to initiate the right-hand rolls, I close the throttle.
humptydumpty Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 Hmm In that video I think it shows something else. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Attitude Power Trim Power Attitude Trim Wing Commander SWAC
