Hey guys,

I want to first begin with how wonderful it is to see so many people now involved with flight simulators. For a long time I thought that the FPS world was a dominating genre in the realm of computer gaming, but it is nice to see that I was wrong:). Anyways, it has been quite some time since I have flown any aircraft in any simulator (last time being while I was stationed in South Korea 9 years ago) and I am wondering what y'all's thoughts where on this simulator? Is it decent? How realistic?

Most important is the system I am building to finally be able to get back into flight simulators. I was hoping to get some opinions on whether or not my system is not just comparable to y'all's but is it going to be enough to operate this flight sim at its true potential. Here is a list of my hardware specs that I am planning on ordering (minus the case because it really isn't that important to the hardware specs, there is a good amount of airflow though):

GRAPHICS CARD

I currently have one EVGA GeForce GTX TITAN X SC with a core clock of 1127 MHz

(Boosted to 1216 MHz), 3072 CUDA cores, and 12 GB 384 bit GDDR5.

I have an Intel i7 5930K Haswell-E 6-core processor at 3.5 GHz (turbo'd to something like 4.0 but I don't know yet because I haven't put it on the board yet).

I have 64 GB Quad Channel 288-pin DDR4 memory clocked at 2800.

I have an EVGA 1300W Full Modular PSU.

I have an ASRock Gaming X99X board.

This is all for right now. I Just wanted to get your guys' thoughts on those parts. What do y'all think? Do I have enough to play this sim at full spec?

Thank you guys for your time. It means a lot to get an idea if my system is worthy for this flight simulator.

With a good SSD that rig should run DCS very well at high settings. What resolution monitor will you get?

PC:

6600K @ 4.5 GHz, 12GB RAM, GTX 970, 32" 2K monitor.

Awesome! thanks I appreciate your input. I'm getting an Samsung EVO 850 SSD. I was thinking about going 4K so around 3840 x 2160. The card can handle it but I don't know if this simulator supports those resolutions or not.

There are lots of people playing at 4k, if you do a search there are a few threads about it. The only thing I would suggest if you do go 4k is make sure you get a big enough screen to do it justice. I have a 2k screen 32inch and it is the minimum size I would recommend for 2k, for 4k it should be bigger or you may find the details a little small.

good point. I am currently looking at a 42" but I might take one of the bigger TV's in the house and tie it into the rig using an HDMI cable, if I can get the wife to allow that lol. I will definitely look into some of the threads on here about 4K it's nice to know that that is possible on this simulator. Thank you for your help and information.

Spetz,

Awesome!! Thank you for your input. It's nice to know that I should have no problem running this simulator then. How do you like your joystick setup? I was thinking about getting one but not sure if they are worth the money. I have heard a lot of guys that swear by those warthog HOTAS's. Just wondering what you thought of yours.

Also, I noticed some people here with windows 10, what do you guys think of that OS. I was thinking about going with the tride and true win 7 but I haven't heard all that much about it.

Win 10 is fine, I preferred 7 but once you get used to it 10 just as good. I went for 10 mainly because 7 will become obsolete in a few years so the sooner I start learning 10 the better.

Although it also has some problems the warthog is one of the best available at the moment.

If money was no object (which it is at the moment unfortunately) I would buy a vkb fat black mamba (very limited supply), a warthog throttle (not sure if you can buy separately), and some MFG crosswind rudder pedals. I use a warthog stick and a G940 moded throttle and rudders, the warthog is good with an extension the throttle is good once moded, but the pedals drive me crazy.

When you aim for 4k make very sure you can go beyond 30Hz.

There are a few pitfalls with TV-4k-Games and the cables and VGA cards supporting it.

If money is no concern, check for a TV with at least true 60Hz on a DisplayPort 1.4 cable and

no lesser if you want it trouble free.

Honestly, I would aim for a Gsync or Freesync Monitor as that syncing seems to eliminate lots of stutter at any fps value but that is up to you. I prefer 144Hz 1440p over 60Hz 1880p(4k)

and OC your CPU, 4GHz is the entry point, watercooling and your nice mobo should make 4.5 possible...and those 500MHz is a totally different league for dcs

Hi Bitmaster. I am getting a 4K 40 inch TV. you said you need a displayport 1.4 cable ??

But most people say use an HDMI 2.0 cable connection with big 4K TV?

I thought displayport was only used for NVidia g-sync.

please explain.
