My Tail Wheel in the P51-d is locked all the time

Reviewed a lot of forum threads and only a few experience this and I have seen no answers.

Have not found any way to alter wheel lock binding.

Tail wheel lock is from Stick position, not a keyboard binding. If there is a binding it must be a placeholder for other aircraft.

To unlock push stick all the way forward, to lock bring stick back.

R0gu3_L4mbd4, could you make in-game track of your movement and put it here? We will try to find what goes wrong.

I'll do the recording later if OP doesn't first.

If you will record the track, please post it also to the thread with this bug reported (mentioned in my post above), so it will hopefully get some attention.

Here's the video, 'Ill Post it over there too. Sorry it's quiet, but people are sleeping in my house right now. It should be pretty self explanatory though. Keep an eye on the elevator position while I do my doughnuts. Before 1.5 the plane was nearly uncontrolable when in caster wheel mode (unless you were ready for it). Now it just seems to drag that poor wheel right across the pavement.

Respawn. When wheel is in this position wheel is unlocked. Locked Wheel can deflect +/- 6 degrees only.

As you see on pic the wheel is more deflect than +/- 6 degrees.

Question: How can I lock the tail wheel correctly to avoid this problem.

Thanks

Basically you need to use differential braking to get wheel straight, then you pull stick back and your wheel should be locked.

Stick forward unlock tail wheel.

Thanks for your fast reply :)

I dont understand why tail wheel lock in this position at 90 degrees even if I dont turn it. Also its very hard and sometime impossible to unlock it...

What i noticed is that all birds suffer from this "bug" when you allow tail wheel to deflect at great angle it wont get straight easy, sometimes it is very hard to start taxing because this tail wheel act like brake(when deflection is in 90 degrees range). Solution to this is to apply enough power to force plane move and dance on rudder and brakes to unjam this wheel :)

Absolutely the most enoying tail wheel for me is in Bf109 k4.

For me the whole ground handling need to be improved someday, the major issue imho is initial friction, planes feel like glued to surface.

Yes I found this solution before panic  but sometime it not work. What I noticed is that the problem often occurs after missing a first takeoff.

Its sad that DCS does not correct these problems, I hesitate to buy other birds for this reason :music_whistling:

It is very complex thing to do, it is easy to adjust system to fit perfectly in one scenario, but to fix problem globally is a different thing. Any way this ground handling is very good imho. It is not perfect but it is good enough.

Im not sure why for you this problem is so big, in 95% of taxing time you should not encounter this problem unless you are doing some 180 degree drifts while taxing.

Do not hesitate all DCS birds are great i have them all.I would buy them second time if i had too.
