Sulman
I was really excited about getting to see this aircraft at FFD. I've never seen a Mig-29 with my own eyes before, let alone this version. It is a Mig 29 (it's badged as the Mig-35 for export apparently) fitted with fully automatic thrust-vectoring nozzles; the pilot simply flicks a switch on the throttle to switch the system on; the fly-by-wire does the rest: It's difficult to describe, but the result is very agile low-speed performance. The aircraft is put into high-alpha maneuvers (very much standard fare at airshows) and the thrust-vectoring then shoves the aircraft around into all sorts of contortions, including a backflip. The most interesting for me is a maneuver that starts a bit like a tailslide, but at the top at 0 IAS the aircraft is put on her back (using the nozzles, remember there's no control surface authority at this speed) and freefalls inverted - it's quite beautiful. bSr.LCsta
This is my favorite plane currently. I saw him at MAKS 05 and his performance beat the 30mk in my opinion. I love the boomerang that he does just after take-off, then the double culbit and the super cobra are just great. Hard landing is this ok?
Alfa
Nice photos Sulman! :) I was really excited about getting to see this aircraft at FFD. I've never seen a Mig-29 with my own eyes before, let alone this version. It is a Mig 29 (it's badged as the Mig-35 for export apparently).. It is a MiG-29M prototype modified with a new FBW control system and and the new thrust vectored engines :) . [/url] http://www.migavia.ru/eng/news/?id=26&tid=4 Cheers, - JJ. The MIG29OVT indeed is a marvelous aircraft, however, it can accomplish nothing the Su-30MKI can't do. The Su30MKI is still the most lethal, deadly, yet graceful and sexy looking aircraft sitting on the tarmac! SU-30MKI F/A-18F ...Beauty, grace, lethality. bSr.LCsta
The MIG29OVT indeed is a marvelous aircraft, however, it can accomplish nothing the Su-30MKI can't do. The Su30MKI is still the most lethal, deadly, yet graceful and sexy looking aircraft sitting on the tarmac! The Su-30 is larger and there for has more powerful radar, larger weapons loadouts, and probably overall better in combat, but it is almost 1.5 times the size of the mig and is not as quick and agile, AND I was not talking about combat anyway. Why doesn't the MK do a boomerang after take-off, or at all for that matter? Maybe your sponsored by Suhkoi or something and took offense, but what I said was....after watching the live demos for BOTH A/C, I was slightly more impressed with the MIG. is this ok? christopher m
Mig 29M Nice pictures thanks, Airshow season really gets me down since there are no airshow in Thailand. I should try to make the Singapore show if they have one this year ? Mig 29 Vs Su 30 is kind of like; Mercedies Limo Vs small sports car both have their advantages but not all can afford the Merc so the Mig definitely has a market ? Have they sold any to anyone ? Would be nice to see it operational. And what a blast it would be to have it .......... Oh well ................ Yes something like that. The MiG-29 should be seen as an equivalent to the F-16.....i.e. either to make up the numbers for large nations that operate a smaller number of F-15/Su-30s as the main airdefence asset - or as the main asset for smaller nations that cannot afford to operate the larger "high-end" fighters. Have they sold any to anyone ? AFAIK the MiG-29M has not been exported yet, but the naval variant of it - the MiG-29K - has been ordered by the Indian navy and is due for delivery in 2007. I believe the Indian airforce is planning a procurement of new multirole fighters too, and that RSK MIG is entering this tender with the MiG-29M + MiG-29M2 two-seat variant. Considering the high degree of commonoligy(some 90%) between the MiG-29M/M2 and the already purchased MiG-29K/MiG-29KUB, I would think they have a good chance :) . Would be nice to see it operational. Sure would! :) And what a blast it would be to have it .......... Oh well ................ Hehe.....yeah :) . Cheers, - JJ. Agg
I was at Fairford this year too, and the MiG-29OVT display was truly amazing. Seeing the Super Hornet, and the F-15C, after the MiG-29OVT wasnt really the same as it would have been, had the MiG not been there ;)

BTW, MIG-29m2 is also pretty sweet, but no TV if I recall correctly. is this ok?
christopher m
MAKS 2005 I got the vid for the Sukhoi_MAKS_2005 It's the coolist Air Show vid I've ever seen. A lot of heart in those Russian Vid's. Question: bSr.L()Csta ? Is that the plane you took a ride in ? I did a similar thing in 95' I won some on line contest with Elect Arts or some such Calif company and they gave me free flight with I think it was Combat USA ? We flew out of small airfield close to SF Ca and out over the ocean. We did sim dog fights with two planes (italian, prop, two seaters) I got the first fight. In the second fight my friend got behind me and I did a straight down dive. On the pull up I got 5.5 G's and didn't black out but I lost my vision for a while. (pilot was screaming in my ear "pull up-pull up" ) Just wondering was the flight and experience (MAKS) worht it ? bSr.LCsta
Hi Chris, To answer your question about the plane.....Tha pic is of an Mig-29m2. I flew in a Mig-29UB. The body shape is very much similiar between the 2, but the M2 is probably much more advanced technically. The dog fighting is something I have wanted to do. I imagine you don't wear a G suit for that, which is why 5.5 g's was a tuff pull. ;) is this ok?
christopher m
tuff pull` Yes we wore parachutes but no "G" pants. I was lucky to get the free ride cause the cost was about 750.00usd per flier. After pulling up out of that dive I almost lost my breakfast on the dash. When my vision came back the pilot was starring at me wide-eyed asking are you OK? (translation: are you gona puke?) After the flight when we were parked and engine off I asked the pilot "You can do that all day long ? " He said yes and he also did some kind of stunt flying in small planes that are like the crop sprayers you see in southern Ca spraying the cotton crops. He said that is real flying, he said Jets "suck" and he didn,t like that kind of flying. He was a pretty serious pilot so I didn,t argue the point with him. I would do it again in a heart beat if the chance came up. Seriously fun. Barrel rools are sooooo cool cus your stuck to the seat and looking up at the ground below. The body shape is very much similiar between the 2 No it isn't - not even by a long shot! :D . The MiG-29M2 has the MiG-29M airframe(like the "OVT" BTW) which compared to the basic MiG-29 airframe has: * "beaver tail" with large single piece airbrake on spine * two-piece brake chute * no tail fin root extensions(ok the UB doesn't have those either) * no overwing auxillary air-intakes and no FOD doors * sharp edged LERXes * different wings with built-in ECM bulges on wingtips * retractable IFR probe * different shaped radome(housing Zhuk-M radar) * different landing gear * different(more powerful) engines ....just to name some differences. Additionally the tandem-seat cockpit arrangement on the MiG-29M2 is placed further back on the airframe allowing room for the Zhuk-M radar in the nose :) . Cheers, - JJ. bSr.LCsta
well it looks more like a MIG-29UB than an SU-27UB. Thats all I was saying. But after looking closer it looks more like a 29 than a 29UB. ;) is this ok?
