Galm1 Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 What is this trail following behind me? It usually starts about 6-7 minutes into my flight and when it starts, there is no way to stop it without getting a new plane. I'm not overheating, and I am not running 100% throttle, I am usually at about 80% and climbing when it happens. I have tried keeping the radiator flaps open manually, but that did not seem to help. The smoke trail persists and never dissipates, the picture of me on the ground was taken from a standstill after about 5 minutes of sitting there just to verify no change in opacity. If anyone can shed some light on this, I would greatly appreciate it.
Nerd1000 Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 looks like an oil leak. Is the smoke issuing from the radiator cowl flaps?
Galm1 Posted February 5, 2016 Author Posted February 5, 2016 It's hard to tell exactly where it is coming from. I wish i had got a screen shot of it, but it honestly looks like it's coming from behind the dash (in F2 external, the smoke trail just clips through most of the aircraft). I was just flying, and it started up as usual, but it went away after I started just fooling around (100% throttle, MW-50 on, just generally flying crazy). I can't seem to find a consistent pattern to make it start or stop other than to just fly and watch it happen. I've attached a screenshot of my cockpit a few seconds after it started. The second picture shows my trail from my previous aircraft in the distance just over the end of the runway (which I crashed over an hour ago, and the trail was still there).
jester_ Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 It's a known issue. Probably a bug that has to do with abrupt manifold pressure changes. You'll experience it in the Dora pretty consistently when the ATA changes automatically at 3300m of altitude or so.
DieHard Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 If I use MW-50 wide open I am fine. Once MW-50 is turned off, there is a rpm limit too high that will cause black smoke trail. Drop rpm, do not go over limit. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
eekz Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 (edited) It's bugged exhaust smoke lifetime, used to be on Bf109 too, but fixed there. The problem remains on Dora. Hopefully will be fixed soon. By the way, would be great to see other players' exhaust smokes of Kurfurst and Dora in multiplayer. Really hope for that improvement Edited February 12, 2016 by eekz VIRPIL Controls Servers
