Patch 2.0.1 Rudder a bit to effective ...

You can pretty much do a 360 while going forward if you just hold down left or right rudder xD

Or you just go straight into the ground if you pull up left aileron and left rudder

Or you can go into a climbing flat spin if you pull up left aileron and right rudder

xD

Don't have video sry try your self in game

Is it doing this with any FBW switch setting (I didn't install the update yet :music_whistling:)?

Pretty much normal is silly but with fbw spin switch it's even more extreme

Here we go, quick video of the problem.

Credit where credit is due; atleast the engine complete flames out during this maneuver, however after I recover the next lot of spins is done power off; showing it has nothing to do with thrust; but all to do with the apparently Nimitz aircraft carrier sized rudder.

Also it was not shown in the 2.0.1 patch notes, but new in game sound can be confirmed. This ads a lot to the game play elements, increases the tactical element and also confusion to enemies. I am really glad they went ahead with this decision.

my rudder joystick axis got inverted with 2.01, no biggie as its as simple as inverting the axis on the contols page to fix it, but i wonder if its just me

IMO, the rudder authority doesn't look wrong to me.

Full rudder deflection should result in a HUGE yaw moment. That's why you need to be gentle on the pedals.

But the FBW should take care of preventing funky movement.

In SPIN mode I agree it should be that effective but not in NORM mode.

I would go as far as saying in the history of aviation there has never been a rudder that is so effective, that it can put an aircraft into a flat spin from 350KIAS, with a flamed out engine. Ever.

The size of the control surface, in no way shape or form could overcome the drag of pushing the aircraft sideways through the air the way it does. The control would buffet and stall long before we have an aircraft turning sideways into a stream of air at 300 KIAS even with an engine running.

I mean 2000+HP Piston aircraft, with huge amounts of slipstream effect pushing on one side of the vertical tail cannot do this. Aircraft like Edge 540's etc can do things like this, but again at vastly lower airspeeds. They have a short fuselage, huge controls, and slipstream, not a jet thats shaped like a dart.

I can agree that the Mirage could spin like this; with a wing stall, incorrect control inputs, at stalling angles of attack. However this is no other control input other than rudder and at 350KIAS, straight and level

Folks, CptSmiley has already made modifications but for the most part behavior is correct, at a certain critical beta you get directional instability, only problem is rudder was too effective at high beta.

He also fixed the control authority but the overall directional dynamic and static stability appears to be correct.

AFAIK, on the real deal, rudder-only roll are possible in certain conditions (at high AOA, among other).

However, the described behavior here seems a little funky indeed..

Based on this report, you guys should see some nice enhancements in the next patch in regards to rudder authority (both changes in normal FBW and spin mode FBW), control effectiveness due modeling to high sideslip, and also some aerodynamic modeling additions due to high beta (such as the side of the wing that is in turbulent flow due to high sideslip will experience various lift loss).

Really nice, is it gonna come this friday on 1.5 ?
