Hi,

first of all, I'm new to DCS and to this forum, so mods please move this topic to the right subforum if I'm completely wrong here.

The issue I'm having is generic, but for me it seems to be much worse in P-51 than in e.g. FW 190 D-9 or in some of the jets I've tried out of the FC3.

I have 3 monitor setup. nVidia surround view 5880 x 1080 (bezel corrected) and the vertical field of view is very small in this setup.

If I play only with a single monitor, I can see much more of the surrounding sky.

Below are 3 images.

-my 5880 x 1080 view. This is fully zoomed out, head/camera position as back in the cockpit as possible. Even with TrackIr I'm having real trouble maintaining situational awarness through this letterbox view. Pretty much impossible to dog fight.

- 1920 x1080 normal view zoomed out.

- 1920 x1080 head as back as possible in the cockpit view zoomed out.

These views make it much easier to spot and track targets and maintain situational awarness.

Now, are there any settings that can affect this?

Is there any way for me to change the camera FOV?

I would ofcourse very much prefer to use my 3 monitor surround view, but no way I'm taking the P-51 to the hostile skyes if I have to steer it through this letterbox view.

Funny enough, the FW 190 D-9 still has the issue, but not quite as bad as in the P-51.

Cheers,

I'm very interested in any replies! I'm about to upgrade my video card specifically to run a 3 monitor setup with DCS (and I do love my Mustang!)

Edit the file \DCS World\Config\View\Server.lua

Min and max FoV are in CameraViewAngleLimits structures, most aircraft will use the default (from default_fighter_player), some have their own values.

Example:

CameraViewAngleLimits = {20.000000,140.000000},

Here Min FoV is 20 and Max FoV is 140

(it's been a while I didn't play with that, I hope they didn't change it).

EDIT, it seems they changed the way it's done for new aircraft.

For example the M-2000C view settings are in \DCS World\Mods\aircraft\M-2000C\Views.lua

For P-51D the file above should work.

Search for "ViewSettings" otherwise.

Thanks a lot, seems to do the trick :thumbup:

P-51D has it's own setting in there and it was set at 120.

Like it much better at 150.

The single 1080p monitor still gives just a little bit more vertical FOV, but if I go anything past this the wings start to look really crazy.

Thanks, appriciated!

I have been using 1 screen in options as it is one nVidia virtual surround view screen.

Anyhow, changing that to 3 screens (and reverting my CameraViewAngleLimits change in Views.lua) gives me now 120 degrees per screen, i.e. 360°.

This is not exactly what I'm looking for;

and if I limit the CameraViewAngleLimits, I start loosing vertical FOV again.....

sofar I like the view with 1 screen option selected and AngleLimits at 150, but perhaps this needs further trialing with settings.

Any additional tips to get this right?
