JazonXD Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 I've had my stick for about a year now and a few months ago, I've noticed there was a problem with the rudder twist. Basically, the input from it is extremely jittery and even when I'm not touching the stick, it's still inputting 30% twist (it's supposed to be at 50% for the relaxed, middle position). From then on, until now, I've always unbound the rudder input from my axis controls in DCS and it's been working okay so far in flight. However, when it comes to landing or taxiing, it becomes very frustrating because now I have to rely on the keyboard instead of the twist that's right in my hands. Also, it makes emergency situations even that more difficult. Do you guys have any suggestions on how to fix the problem? I've already tried unplugging it then plugging it in and I also tried to reset the calibration to no avail. Thanks. Brewnix Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 Hey so I have a 3D Pro that one of the axis was jittery. This joystick has potentiometers and so I thought mine was bad so I took the joystick apart and solder some jumpers to a new one and hooked em up to the plug of the defective pot and recalibrated the axis in the joystick properties and it function normal. So the pots in the joystick are small and have a plastic housing. So I think they wear out quick. Especially the twist I found when I was in a dogfight or a tense moment I was always twisting the stick with out knowing it. Good luck. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
1.JaVA_Platypus Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 You can attempt to clean the potmeter, or even replace it with a similar one. But that requires some mechanical skill and some tools. You should try to calibrate it again in windows first. Windows does filter out some spiking. If this does not help, try opening up the thing and clean out the pot and raise adjust the metal contacts of it like this guy did: http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/85431-Successful-repair-of-Logitech-Extreme-3D-PRO-Forums Happy Flying! :pilotfly:

Sokol1_br Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 The issue with joy' pot' is that use special resistive trail limited do 30~60 degrees of electrical travel. You dont find these type in Digikey or eBay - maybe in Aliexpress. So get one these mini-sick for PS-3 like gamepad and disassemble, they have 2 "joystick pot'" (limited electrical travel) and replace the defective. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Replacement-Thumbstick-Analog-Stick-Joystick-For-Playstation-3-PS3-Controller-/281880625968?hash=item41a1650330:g:OcQAAOSwYHxWHu0v - Is need have tools and skill for do solders. Cleanup the pot is a temporary solution...
JazonXD Posted February 29, 2016 Author Posted February 29, 2016 Thanks for all the inputs guys (pun intended ;) ) I think I'll try doing a teardown and following that video when I have time... I've found that video before but I really didn't know if it was going to be helpful to me and in addition to that, I wasn't (and still am) not very confident at taking this apart so... Sokol1_br Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 (edited) In this video the guy disassemble the 3D PRO because fall and something inside goes off, you dont need disassemble all the joystick like he did. Just open the grip - is two halves - to access the twist rudder pot. Then you can try the spray cleanup and test. If this dont fix the spike issue, need replace the pot. If I need to end up replacing the pot (potentiometer I'm assuming you guys are referring to?) then where can I get one? Some mechanical skill is required to 'liberate' the proper component tough. pot-meters are there in great many variations. I don't think a 'normal' electronics store has the specific component you need. Best of luck!! Edited February 29, 2016 by 1.JaVA_Platypus zpelling eror Happy Flying! :pilotfly:
Brewnix Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 (edited) Heres a pic of the new and improved 3d pro with the new pot on it. I call it the repurposed joy and the actual pot is the bottom pic. So the ebay listing Sokol1 found might be pretty close minus the nub on the side of the pot. Joystick pot use special resistive trail - with electrical angle limited to ~30 to 60 degrees (depends on model). They are made only for joystick industry, as "have no use" in conventional market... :noexpression: This topic illustrate well the difficulty "quest" for proper joystick potentiometer: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=160247 Edited February 29, 2016 by Sokol1_br
