Hi all,

I've just upgraded my Shapeoko 2 CNC to an x-carve so no longer have use for it. You can get info on https://www.inventables.com/.

No idea on price yet, i'm only looking to see if there is any interest on these forums. It's located in London UK and i'd prefer collection (though I can accommodate shipping or delivery depending on location).

Hi Mac,

It's a good bit of kit. The learning curve is steep, but I think that goes for getting into CNCing whichever tool you buy. The forums are very good so certainly assist with learning, as well as a lot of good Youtube video on the subject.

I wouldn't have upgraded to the X-Carve if I wasn't happy with it. And the main reason for that was to have a larger bed size to cut bigger pieces and more powerful cutting tool.

If I dont get any takers, I may hold on to it and convert it to a laser engraver.

Hi Pappavis,

The spec for the Shapeoko can be found here:

https://www.inventables.com/projects/shapeoko-2-mechanical-kit-to-full-kit

And a this guy gives a pretty good over view of assembly and usage:

I'm looking to get £200 - £300 for it (I honestly cant remember what I originally paid, I think around £700).

I would stress that it is sold as a DIY kit and as such I had to put it together myself and it takes a bit of tinkering to dial everything in and achieve accuracy. It's also a starter kit so the spindle that comes with it is a knock off Dremel I.E. not too powerful but okay for engraving. I upgraded my spindle to a Dewalt router which makes a lot of difference (The Dewalt is not included as i'm using it elsewhere now).

as far as software goes, the vendor have an online CAD / CAM package which is aimed at total beginners (like myself) and is free to use (https://www.inventables.com/technologies/easel).

There are a lot of open source upgrades available such as dust shoes limit switches etc Although I don't know the total cost of these when you add it all up.

If you want out of the box accuracy and all the bells and whistles from the get go, I would probably say this isn't the tool to use. If however, you want to get into CNC fabrication without throwing a lot of money at it, need a learning tool, and if you don't mind checking the machine for alignment every so often, then I think it's perfect.
