I have found a very strange difference in how trees are rendered in Lock-On.

 

I just edited the tree clipping range via Modman, as you can see in the screenshots! The difference on the trees is quite obvious.

 

Can anyone explain this, I dont understand this behaviour.

 

BTW: Maybe it has somethink to do with the Tree Mod, that adds trees around the airport?

 

Is this tree behaviour reproduceable by others too?

Pic 2 and 3 show quite the same region from the same altitude and shows the difference quite well.

i did that once and screwed up my trees like that. I forgot the original tree clipping so i just reinstalled. I would stay the hell away from those settings.

mine looks the same, hey what is the best setting so I can see farther away I think mine is 20000/50000 right now.

I don't quite understand what's wrong there.

 

The screenshots look wonderful, the way the trees are placed are very realistic!

 

I do believe, however, that it's a result of the Tree Mod, which places trees in and around airports....even till' out there.

It's not a tree mod, he just messed around with some settings in MODMAN.

Tree mod has nothing to do with this. All trees in de scenery file have the same viewing parameters.

I only placed trees around airbases, not this far out and certainly not on non-flat areas.

Well mabey I don't understand what we're even looking at.

 

Is it the placement of trees, or the fact that beyond a certain point, no more trees are rendered and they abruptly stop? If the latter, alright then.

It is the fact, that if you mess with the tree clipping range the trees look different. I changed the clipping range just from 8000 to 10000, which is not a drastic change.

 

At least they loose the "look through - transparency effect" as it seems to me.

 

 

"Normally" the tree transparency increases with the distance. Therefore you can not definately see the line of the clipping limits, because at the that distance the trees are alreay 100% transparent.

 

On the First and 2nd Pic it seems as the tree loose the transparency effect, so they look brighter than the rest of the environment, but you can definetly see the clipping range limit.

 

And that's what is strange. I wonder if the Devs know about this...

 

 

It is not a big problem, just strange, and interesting.
