NEODARK Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 This would be pretty sweet, if it ever comes to be. It happens to be pretty close to where I live. FORT BELVOIR, Virginia (AP) -- The Army is considering a proposal to allow a private developer to build a military-themed park that would include Cobra Gunship rides and bars including a "1st Division Lounge." "You can command the latest M-1 tank, feel the rush of a paratrooper freefall, fly a Cobra Gunship or defend your B-17 as a waist gunner," according to the proposal, which was obtained by The Washington Post. would be cool to fly on a cobra as gunner, etc.. Guest IguanaKing Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 That would be a great recruiting tool, IMHO. They'll just have to make sure the visitors keep their protective gear on, especially when firing the Ma Deuce on the B-17. Considering how litigiuos some people can be, that'll be a must.
dynamocl Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 Yes, one imagines it would get the public's adrenaline pumping and get them wanting to use these nice toys to cause havoc. However, not wanting to get pollitical, but the gung-ho idea of going into a war zone causing havoc doesnt sit well with me. I am not a passifist, but people getting thier kicks from blowing stuff up, then going to sunny places and doing the same, with civies etc... I dunno, I have seen too much to find the glorification of combat being turned into an amusment park a little too past the line. Would I like a go in the hardware, yeah of course. Do I want the US army marketing this to kids as "its fun to blow stuff up", not sure. I am probably gonna regret writing this post... but its the way I currently feel.
JG27_Arklight Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 It'll never happen. Good luck finding an insurer. Guest IguanaKing Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 I see your point Dynamocl, but there might also be a possibility of giving people just a slight glimpse at some of the reality. Its violent, loud, and you get lots of smoke that burns your eyes, nose, and throat. It might just make a few of the visitors say "Wow, I guess its not as easy and comfortable as sitting at a computer blowing up simulated targets." Not that it'll actually have that effect...just a thought, however outlandish it may sound. :music_whistling:
Guest IguanaKing Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 When do you want to go, dude? I'm on vacation this week, and oddly enough I've been thinking about going to Cherry Creek for a quick run at the range. I think I might be safe from muzzle sweeps by hunter boneheads if I go during the week rather than the weekend...but, who knows. I swear, some of those guys don't seem to realize that their weapons can kill people too.
hitman Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 Think this weeks a no-go unless I can pony up some bones for the weekend...and Bens baby is inbound this week, so this weeks bad timing. That and the weather. All this talk bout blowin' stuff up sexually excites me.:spam_laser::thumbsup: Next weekend???
