I wonder why they can't start the old download system and installation as an alternative to the auto update system. It would solve a lot of problem when the auto update not work. It seems that it is a lot of problem with the auto update and installation system.

Because they would have to create installers for each and every module for every update. The increased workload would provide limited benefits compared to a significant increase in workload for each release.

That's my take on it, and I was a major fan of the standalone installers.

I understand. But when it is a lot of problem they must solve it in some way. I have not yet installed the 1.5 stable version because it do not work. I use the 1.5 open beta with separate files, but I can't install my modules, because they are not separate. When I want to use my modules, I ran the older 1.2 version instead that have separate install files

Why are you finding it so hard?

You log in game, go to the module manager and manage your modules, it is not rocket science.

as for the old method for downloading, with the size of the new content it was not viable to continue that way, the auto updater and the torrent system solves these issues for ED

The autoupdater "automagically" takes care of everything - it can't be any simpler for us end users.

But it might suck quite a bit if it doesn't. But changing the system to something with a lot more of user interaction with several additional steps that could go wrong ... is probably not the right idea here.

Umm, please be gentle on me as my problem is getting at the very first download of DCS proper. I was into this game until sometime last year when something or the other disrupted my monitor resolutions and i couldnt get at the menus whenever I logged in. So I stayed off DCS for a while and sated my thirst for flight with CLoD and IL-2 BOS; then my entire system went kaput and I lost everything. I'm now starting again from scratch however locating the installer has proved impossible. From browsing the forums Ive caught onto the fact that a new download method is in use now. If that's the case, could someone kindly point me to where this is and I'm sure I can take it up from there. Thanks very much in advance.
