Why when you damage an AI aircraft why does it slow right down and extend its speed bakes? Surely it would be better for it to get to the nearest friendly airfield asap. Hopefully this will be fixed one day.

No and behavior should depend on extent of damage and their situation.

But sure... damage in combat and the instinct for survival should take over. Like eject or bug out and RTB if possible.

Deploying air brakes and slowing down might not be a good idea for many reasons, one being becoming an easy target for your foe and certain death!

But your talking about AI whose artificial intelligence is limited.

If you don't hit them in the right places they continue to fight as if not damaged. Other times they level out and head home.

Certainly the AI could stand some more tweaking.

Hah..this is on top of my wishlist..why bother adding more features and pilot-able craft if the basic functionality of the game is lacking good AI or AI damage modeling?

That is the question.

We have very limited AI functions and "simulation" for things like radars, thermal imaging and even for LOS.

People get crazy about new graphics or new modules, while we can't even fly existing ones with real challenge. Combat maneuvers against AI is like circling a oval track until they pull vertical and you get easy kill. CAS missions are boring. Not easily losing lock to targets, seeing units so easily in forests etc (where AI can so easily go), and then radar units are like revealing their positions as soon you get to range of their magical radar.

Top notch is the cockpits, flying experience and flipping switches and pressing buttons. But everything outside the cockpit is boring when AI doesn't even know what to do semi-realistic manner.

While I completely agree with what we sort of need, don't forget that people have got excited about "new graphics" for DCS because it represented massive under the hood changes which should support a lot more of the stuff we'd like to get :)

Forest/Tree AI support seems as if it actually be (partially) turned on if you didn't know.

I made that edit just after my post. :)

Have been planning to try that about couple months when I found out it but never had change. But now I have some problems (unresponsive AI) after single test, need to try today more about it, because I tried to fly twice and first time AI engaged and second time it did not engage. Likely problem was that I used high time acceleration in second time.
