There is no such thing as a 'defensive' weapon.

 

Your weapons can either destroy the enemy, or look pretty sitting there.

 

Sometimes they can do both, but if they only do the latter they're not of much use. That's exactly why weapons are for offense. They have been since the beginning of man.

Yup. The only thing that makes a weapon "defensive" is having your potential enemies know about it and subsequently being discouraged from attacking you because that weapon exists. Weapons are for killing people, plain and simple...no matter how warm and fuzzy someone may want us to feel about this weapon or that weapon and whether or not its "defensive". Its about deterrence, and always has been. The rest of the post is pure politics, so I won't touch it.

Ah, yes...good old aeronautics.ru. Notice how the last paragraph ended with a quote, as if the author got carried away and seemed to think he was quoting someone with his disjointed thoughts? They also seem to forget, in their attempt at playing on racial sentiment in the US, that any missing airman, regardless of his ethnic origin, is not going to simply disappear. The way our press works, if a family is missing a father, we're going to hear about it. The same goes for the rest of the claims.

 

DOH...I just read the part about 20 US SOCOM troops and British SAS being killed. Yes, Spec Ops guys always conceal their identity by putting black tape on their dog tags, nobody would EVER figure that out. :megalol: Yikes!!! The author is quite clearly a comic book reader, and maybe author, in his spare time.

Yeah I just glanced at it, just noticed the F-15 shot down in Sarajevo part. My dog tags were never covered up with electrical tape, but they did have a rubber lining on them...to keep them from rattling.

Your dog tags also contained only 5 bits of info. Your name, branch, service number, religious preference, and blood type. They didn't say anything about your MOS/AFSC. ;) That author has a very rich fantasy life. Oh well...whatever keeps him from molesting children. :D

Who will come close to USA? The last attack on our soil (9/11) was with plastic knifes and passenger airplanes. So F-22 can protect us in such attacks?

 

I don't know where you get the insane idea that all modern/future weapon systems are supposed to defend us against only terrorists with plastic knives. That is by far the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

 

According to you then, all future (or modern) weapon systems being procured by militaries around the world are a complete waste of money, cause chances are the biggest threat is some extremist-Islam guy with a letter opener. Gee, let's all just scrap the T-90, the Leopard 2A6, the F-22, Eurofighter, Gripen, Rafale, Super Hornet, JSF, AH-64D, M1A2 SEP, etc.

American public can cry all they want about casualties, however, from what I’ve seen from Vietnam until nowadays Iraq, that cry does not influence politicians decisions on how long and in what way they will wage a war.

 

If you think the public doesn't influence political decisions in the United States, then that's your opinion. Most people know better.

 

Give me one “public” that does. In the case of America (and other countries too), it really does not matter if they like it or not. Politicians will not change their way of pursuing policy based upon war casualties.

 

Again, believe what you want. You obviously don't completely understand the way the U.S. government works.

 

 

I don’t know what history books you were reading, however, in 1930’s we did not have the same goals as Russia. Russia was ruled by a bloodthirsty communist dictator who killed, prosecuted and imprisoned more then 20 million of its own people. So your analogy just does not stand a ground here.

 

I don't know what kinda history books YOU are reading, but according to mine (and everyone else's), the United States and Russia had the same political and military goal during WWII. That war took place between 1939 and 1945, just in case you need any more facts straightened out.

That’s exactly my point as well. In other words, we talk peace, we participate in UN, we call UN resolutions, yet we build OFFENSIVE weapon systems and go around the world (brake same UN resolutions) telling everybody how stupid they are and how our way of living is better. And if they disagree, we use or “tools” to convince them. I don’t know how much more will people tolerate that.

 

France didn't agree with the U.S. a lot lately. Gee, when are we going to take over Paris?

There are different views from different prespectives, different sources, political views wich are unique from some points of view. Its going be hard hard to change some opinions due to first person difficult experiences, but we have to understand this last fact and hope for the best one day.
