Was thinking of taking a road trip west from Indiana, possibly Grand Canyon, or even some hiking areas around Vegas. I realize I can't actually visit Nellis, but if anyone has any suggestions for camping/hiking around the area, please let me know! Lol, I'll try to stay clear of the Farms, and Area 51

It'll just be me and my dog - haven't decided whether to do car camping or full on back country camping. I should have 4 or 5 days in the area.

Thanks for any suggestions!

^This, with it being hot and dry the environment will kill you very quickly if you are not fully prepared. There are lots of hiking trails around Lake Mead and the views are pretty spectacular as well.

As far as getting to Nellis, they do offer tours of the base. Currently they are booked until June for the tours and the Thunderbirds Museum is closed till the end of this month for renovation.

For those interested in the NTTR there are many interesting places to visit. In Rachel you should stop at the Little A'Le'Inn to eat and view the truck in front with the saucer hanging from its rear hoist. In DCS 2 I took an F-15 flight to Rachel and they actually modeled the Little A'Le'Inn and the truck.

Another place to visit would be the "black mailbox" which some people believe to be the most photographed mailbox in the world. I'm not sure I buy that though.

If you are around Baker, CA visit the Alien Fresh Jerky store next to the World's Largest Thermometer. Yeah, a lot of the attractions here are alien related and not military aviation related but it's fun just the same.

If you are really daring you can drive the 22 mile dirt road to the trailhead for the Tikaboo Peak hike that will lead to a viewpoint where you can view Area 51 at 26 miles distance. I have done this one several times.
