Hey guys, i'm one of the many that have some doubts about Starfoce.

I have 3 Activation left and i don't wanna to waste them, so here are my questions...

Wich hardware upgrade result in re-activation?

I read in this forum that BIOS upgrade result in re-activation while some others write that only major upgrades requires re-activates, but does not define what "major" means.

Here i put some examples that i'm worry, since i recently change my PC. This new hardware, have a provisional video card coz some supply problems. So in the near future i have to change them.

A video card change result in re-activation?

The amount of memory are afected to SF?. i need to reactivate if i add another module or change modules?.

Overclock: SF detects if clock times are changed? What happens if I change FSB, or memory timings?

Sound card: My new motherboad do not have a game port. Imagine that right now i activate FC, and then i wish to add a PCI sound card to use Gameport. That result in another activation??

Note that i'm not including motherboard change, CPU "core" change and Master Hard drive for obvious reasons.

I will very gratefull if you put your real experiences or some real and valid info.

Try to aboid comments whit "i think that..."

Thanks in advance.

Now, none of us here are Starforce-employees, you'd be better off asking them these questions.

I'll give it a try, regardless. I doubt chaning video-cards/whatever ALONE will result in a reactivation. If it's anything like XP's product-activation-technology, my experience shows that you can get away with quite a lot of hardware-changes before it kicks in.

Overclocking, however, can't possibly be a problem. Like I said, I don't know the first thing about Starforce (except that it's russian), but I feel confident in stating that overclocking has to be ok. Well, depending on the hardware and cooling, of course. Bleh.

Good luck.

Sound card change all by itself did not cause a re-activation for me.

A friend upgraded his memory from 512MB to 1GB and did not have to re-activate.

No problem adding new peripherals such as new JS, TrackIR, etc.

However, if you were to upgrade memory AND change sound cards the SF checker MIGHT trigger a re-activation. Some have suggested (but not tested) the theory that if you only make one change (such as sound cards) and then run LO for a couple weeks and then make another change (such as adding memory) that SF would allow that.

Personally I'd go ask that specific question in the SF forum before I ever tried that theory. You should probably go read the SF forum and ask your questions there.

Im sure you know the best thing to do is make ALL your hardware upgrades, get it running stable, before you start up LO again. The list you have of hardware changes is sure to trigger a re-activation.

So far I havent needed to use any re-activations. Like a lot of others I plan on upgrading just before BlackShark is released.

The good news is that we should all get another fresh group of re-activations when we get BS.

Yesterday I upgraded from 1GB to 2GB of ram. I replaced 2X512 Kingmax with 2X1024 twinmos and it asked me for another activation... no biggie I keep all my regs with the activation and if I run out of them (cause of hardware change) I'll contact the support team and I'm shure it will be solved.

Don't worry if you run out of activations

I have 3 Activation left and i don't wanna to waste them, so here are my questions...

There's completely no problem when you waste all your activations.

All you need is to email support@lockon.ru , and tell technical support staff you've run out of activations. Try to use same email adress that you've registered with lockon.ru/lockon.co.uk webpage, and in your email don't forget to write the username under which you bought LockOn Flaming Cliffs.

That's what I did. Support will give you new serial number with new set of activations.

I have changed sound cards AND added another gig of memory with FC installed. I'm still working on the same activation I started with. Well...not quite...I burned a couple of activations when adding incompatible mods without first doing my homework, and I ended up having to use three activations within a day of downloading and installing FC. No more problems since then though, and those problems were caused by me not R'ingTFM. I think Silent Warrior has it right, SF most-likely works on a weighted vote system, and OCing won't change your hardware ID. ;)

I made a new partition and physical formated my HD's. Re-instaled the same OS.

Even with "Save Registry" I need to reactivate.

It happened twice (that damn virus...:().

I believe this occured because the name of the HD's were changed.
