Couple of wishes after maidenfligth in VR (Vive)

For two days now I've been testing the Vive with DCS. There are a couple of issues like the low resolution, SDE and performance problems. But the presence is so strong that can be easily overlooked. I feel like I have much better control over the plane. Landing is a whole lot of a different experience. You can judge distances much easier and are able to correct your flight intuitively so even botched up approaches end up in a silkysmooth touchdown. I also tried the guns only instant mission with the Mirage - oh boy - hadn't had more fun in DCS for a while.

Now two things are really making life hard in VR:

  • Menu overlay: when you call up the ESC menu it floats in front of the picture and always stays in the center. This is a problem because the Vive only offers a relatively small sweet spot for sharpness so text in the peripherie won't be readable. At the current state you cannot use the menue to assign keys etc.
  • Mission/radio text: Same problem. Text appears at the top of the screen which makes it unreadable in the Vive.

I think those things should be easily fixable. Does anyone else share the same experience?

Here are mine:

  • menu optimization for VR users (pending)
  • seat adjustment bindable to joysticks, boxes, etc. (See my tips here to do it manually)

  • binoculators or zoom function
  • optimization to the various world objects to reduce inefficient rendering
  • update the frame rate counter to include ATW frame rates
  • kneeboard function like FlyInside
  • VR Friendly Radio Menus

For cockpit "seat" movement, I use my POV hat to set Cockpit Camera Move Back, forward, left, right,up,down in the View Cockpit assignments. I use the POV upper right(UR) for "UP" and lower left(DL) for "Down". I like to sit pretty far forward so I can read most of the instruments without much "lean in" - I also use the Bigger HUD font for the A-10C in the User Files.
