clawz Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 As the title suggests, is there any way to restrict SAM launch ranges outside of being a CA player? I went through all of the advanced waypoint options and roll out menus for air defense units with no luck finding any way to do this inside the ME. A method similar to the recent "Restrict AA Missile Range" option for fighters would be great. Would love to be able to access this without loading up the mission, hopping in a CA slot, configuring all the SAMs to limit launch ranges and then hopping back into an aircraft.
Sryan Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 you can make triggerzones to precisely mark the territory at wich point the SAM will fire. Make it so the ROE for the SAM changes from weapons hold to weapons free the moment an opposing plane enters the triggerzone. Check my F-15C guide

Make it so the ROE for the SAM changes from weapons hold to weapons free the moment an opposing plane enters the triggerzone. This is something I have done for missions knowing its going to be a one and done type scenario. Issue currently is the amount of aircraft involved (15+) over a long period of time and at different times. Can likely do it with a combination of triggers but was hoping for a simpler streamlined solution that just took advantage of the built in CA options.
Sryan Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 Unless there are aircraft you would like to exclude from the rule and see them shot down at max range, you could simply use the COALITION INSIDE ZONE condition instead of creating conditions for every single aircraft. Don't forget the clone function is there as well to quickly create many triggers, conditions or actions with only minor differences. Check my F-15C guide
ESAc_matador Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 how to exclude and include aircrafts? this can be interesring for me.
nomdeplume Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 how to exclude and include aircrafts? this can be interesring for me. Using the UI tools, the only way to do this is to explicitly use the "GROUP IN/OUT OF ZONE" or "UNIT IN/OUT OF ZONE" conditions. Kind of a pain - would be really nice to at least have "COALITION UNIT TYPE IN/OUT OF ZONE" conditions at times. Sometimes you want to respond to aircraft entering an area but ignore the present of ground units, for example.
ESAc_matador Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 THe problem of unit in zone is, once the SAM is activated, it can fire to outer flights...
nomdeplume Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 Yes, the OP's original question was never directly answered, so: no, there is no way to reduce the engagement range of SAMs/ground units. Unless you're willing to mod the game in which case you could probably the unit or weapon parameters to reduce its range.
DUSTY Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 Does this help? Well there is through Combine Arms just not a simple method in the manner of fighter AA missile options now available in the ME. Hopefully it will come down the road.
