I am putting together an idea for a campaign that will be set in Nevada.

I am interested in what actual weapon systems are on the ground for defense of these facilities.

Naturally, I don't need precise information, but rather, what should I put down, and how much, as a scenario designer. For example, 1 patriot battery? 2? How about AAA?

I would imagine the actual numbers in the field would be low since we aren't planning on any invasions anytime soon.

Any insight or resources I can look into?

Thanks!

Which airfield? Russian or US/NATO?

which threat level? All-out war, peace-time operation or higher state of alert?

I know that somewhere, buried a year or so back in this very forum, you'll find a post on typical airbase defense setups; not specific airfields or anything but what types of units you can generally expect to find at relative locations in the real world.

Memory is a little hazy and I can't remember the sources, but it's here somewhere if you feel like digging for it. :)

Good luck!

To whom it may concern,

I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.

Thank you for you patience.

Many people don't want the truth, they want constant reassurance that whatever misconception/fallacies they believe in are true..

usually, to defend a high value target (HVT) like an airfield, you'd start by setting up your eyes and ears of the system, e.g. one or two radars that cover far out of the HVT, say 100nm.

Think of air defense as multiple umbrellas keeping the rain out, if one fails or is destroyed/bypassed, antoher one takes over. Layered defense or onion rings if you like.

Long range SAM-site, protected by short range point defense solutions (strela, SA-15/19, MANPADS) is you first layer and doesn't need to be in the vicinity of the HVT but should have ample radar coverage.

After that, try to identify the avenues of approach you think the enemy will take and place smaller ranged radar sam site(s) there.

At the HVT, SA-15 to acquire targets and engage at a relative longer range coupled with short range SAMs and MANPADS for point defense.

The above mentioned Integrated Air Defense Script will work nicely to support your set-up.
