Mt5_Roie Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 Resolution is great. Most aircraft have been updated and are a pleasure to fly. Check out my review of most of them at: 1 Coder - Oculus Rift Guy - Court Jester
Loz Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 Except the blades rotate to the right so the blades retreat on the right side... Anyway how is the resolution in these VRs? All these videos have made me want one because I got rid of my triple screen setup. I'm thinking about buying one soon, but would like to know if the resolution is high enough. Gosh you are right. I claim senility and it was over 25 years ago that I used to fly them. But I stand by what I said about the FM not being very accurate in regard to aerobatics. Shouldn't fly helis if you want to loop and roll everywhere. :pilotfly: And for Polychop, your Rift must be way better than the Vive cause I would not call the resolution great. Far from it. The immersion is superb though. So much so that I've had to change my physical setup (I used to fly like you with my Warthog Joystick as a sidestick) to mimic the real position as I kept grabbing at fresh air, going for the stick. For Jansgi, you should also note that most of the videos that you see for both the Rift and the Vive give you a far better "version" of the resolution as they are not taken from the output to the HMD but to the "Mirror" that shows on your monitor. I must get my macro video out and film through one of the lenses and see if that gives a more realistic version of how it looks. i9 9900x at 5.1 Ghz // ASUS ROG Maximus XI Formula EK Bloc // 64Gb Corsair Vengence 3600Mhz DDR4 Ram // Gigabyte Aorus 3090 Watercooled block//Samsung SM951 M2 x4 SSD // Windows 10 64 Bit //48inch LG48 @ 3840x2160 120Hz//Asus ROG Swift PG35VQ 3440 x 14440 144Hz // TM Warthog HOTAS (Ser. Mt5_Roie Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 I try to avoid doing loops and roll in general.....I prefer an actual airplane for that. But light weight heli's are pretty fun to fly and there are some pretty cool heli demo team out there doing rolls and loops. But lets agree that we'll never agree on it...so lets talk VR instead. I actually have two joysticks set up, thinking about eventually consolidating to one soon. I have a Saetik X65F that I use for jets. Since you it registers your force for the stick, it's not ideal for helis. I use the X52 stick for heli's and WW2 planes. The X52 stick is between my legs and the X65F is on my right side. I originally had the X52 throttle mounted to a collective I built, but it need to be repaired and couldn't get the good sensitivty I need for heli's that I like. As for resolution, I started out with the DK2 and now have the CV1. The resolution has improved quite a bit between them. When not in VR I normally fly at 1080p. In VR the resolution is greater then that so for me, the resolution is pretty good. Now if your used to flying with a 4k monitor, then your opinion might be different. The real key here that you mentioned is immersion. I find this to be the biggest factor in VR. I've also reached out my hands and tried to grab things that weren't there. It's amazing how your eyes can trick your mind. I also find that flying heli's my stomach get effected more like actual movement. I only really get that with jets when flying upside down. Also keep in mind that for VR you have to have a really good computer. This is also the first generation of VR products hitting the market. Hopefully in 2-3 years the requirements will go down and hopefully the price will too. Gosh you are right. I claim senility and it was over 25 years ago that I used to fly them.
