vassel Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 Salute all, I am not sure if I posted this post at the right category. I hope so. I need help, I am not very new in lockon, "I usually play LAN", I have problems trying to align with an enemy convoy when trying to straff bomb with a Su-25T. Most of the time I face 8-5 degrees away from the convoy and not on its direction at a moderate altitude of 1600-2300 metres, It is very hard for me to get my plane facing the convoy in a straight line that I end up wasting 3-4 bombs "Fab-100, KMGU". Please tell me the ways or way to align facing the convoy's direction for perfect kills. Thankyou in advance.
ZoomBoy27 Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 1st thing - if the convoy has no air defence, pull up and try again - do not force it. 2) Fly with full flaps(Shift-F) on ingress - this should get you extra time over the convoy to align correctly 3) recognize that you need to line up earlier - review the map or spend more time spotting or on the Shkval watching from a distance before choosing an ingress route. 4) if you've made your 1st run - a) Note the Heading and try to get on its inverse b) DO NOT quickly turn back but extend your egress for an extra period of time(extract flaps) and then turn back for your 2nd run ZoomBoy My Flight Sims Page - Link to My Blog - Sims and Things - DCS Stuff++ - Up-to-Speed Guides to the old Lockon A10A and Su-25T - Some missions [needs update]
vassel Posted August 23, 2006 Author Posted August 23, 2006 Hmmm, I never tried using full flaps, always went for 15 degrees flaps but not full, "Interesting indeed" A question to your answer: Do i reduce speed"throttle" to a point for the plane not to stall(eg: 65%) and trim nose down or do I reduce speed to 0% and use the wind atmosphere to glide to the point of attack when aligning after dropping to full flaps? My plane mass is 98%. Sorry for my english but when you meant ingress route, did you mean the point of turn so as to face the convoy on a straight line? More points are welcome also Thankyou.
bogusheadbox Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 depends on the situation and the load outs available to you and the enemy you are encountering. But rule of thumb is 1. to never stay in the area and make multiple passes, 2. Scout area before entering for validity of target and possible target defenses. 3. Asses for high or low alt run. do you need to stand off or can you ingress the target area? 4. Never ever ever under any circumstances engage yourself for multiple runs on a single target unless absolutely deemed necessary (same as rule 1) Personally. If you are attacking a column in a valley and they have no air defense. Then the best situation is a bombing run with Cluster bombs or multiple munition dispecers with a timed delay on drop. That way you can make one pass, drop all munitions, and cover a large impact area at the single press of a button. Cluster bombs and multiple munition dispencers work wonders for this and are great for taking out columned or closely packed group of targets. One thing you really don't want to do is bleed of too much speed. You want to drop to first stage flaps as that gives you the best manouverability while allowing you to keep a relatviely high speed. (Do not go to landing flaps)The name of the game for the SU25 is to get in there, pound it and get the hell out. You are not a fighter, nor is your plane highly manouverable at low speed. Therefore if you slow down to ensure you make a good hit, you will do the following. 1. Make yourself an easy target for all ground targets. 2. Reduces your ability to bug out and avoid danger if you are hit on attack run due to less energy. 3. Gives you less ability to engage manouvers when that sneaky enemy has launched a day wrecker up your behind. It is better to dump your ordinance and partially take out the target enabling you to return to base, re-arm and re-engage. Than to spend time bobbing about a target area trying to line up a perfect shot for points only to have to eject after your 2nd or 3rd run. But with practice, practice and more practice, you will be able to increase the speed that you attack an enemy and disengage with a greater kill effiency.
ZoomBoy27 Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 Do i reduce speed"throttle" to a point for the plane not to stall(eg: 65%) and trim nose down or do I reduce speed to 0% and use the wind atmosphere to glide to the point of attack when aligning after dropping to full flaps? My plane mass is 98%. ingress route is the path you take into the bombing run. If you plan carefully then you would not need any sudden turns. Egress is the path you take after the bombs hit the target. I tend to use 100% power with full flaps down(~400kmh) and then flaps up as soon as I've finished bombing. It is also a matter of knowing the right type of weapons to use ("Cluster bombs or multiple munition dispecers with a timed delay on drop") and the skill in switching to the right weapon at the right time. For example, for a convoy with AAA, I'd use Vikhr missiles to take out the AAA vehicle from the longest range and maybe another vehicle, and then switch to bombs for the last part of the run. There's quite a work-load that makes the SU-25T's workload interesting to fly. Know what your weapons can do including setting the Dropping Interval that gives you varying bombing spread(V sets Interval). Also get used to switching to Cannon as well You're not using the standard Target/Laser Designation System? I prefer to remap the TDC movement keys(SEMI-COLON, PERIOD, COMMA, SLASH(/)) to the 4 cursor arrows See my Su-25T guide in my sig. ericinexile Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 For alignment, I use the shkval (sp?). Without it, my submunition runs always fall at an unlethal angle to the convoy. Brit_Radar_Dude Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 When you first find the convoy, take your time to look around and check out the terrain, there are no extra prizes for completing a mission quickly. Also try to estimate the speed of the convoy - fast or slow? Are there bends in the road? You don't want to attack just as the convoy turns a corner and half your bombs miss. Is the terrain flat or hilly? You dont want to lose sight of the vehicles behind a bump in the terrain if you attack at low level. As ZoomBoy said - attack from a good distance away, so you have time to make those last delicate adjustments to your attack run. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Sorry Death, you lose! It was Professor Plum....
