OldE24 Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 (edited) Vent wouldnt this be for Venting the engine of fuel/hotair from a hot start or doing a compressor wash on the engine? in VENT position the starter would run but there would be no igniter. If you had just shut the engine down and the T4 is above a safe temp to restart you may VENT the engine to get the T4 down to an acceptable temperature to restart the engine with out the risk of a hot start and "breaking" the engine, further the VENT position would be used for Maint. and compressor washes. the T4 temp seems to be very scripted and goes to the yellow line and stops like it's on a limiter on the start? so i talked to a friend who has experience working on the engine and such start sequence described to me was. The yellow fuel lever to the start position, Fuel boot pump on for 20 second to prime the engine then starter on and it runs thought the "auto start" somewhere around 19,0000 to 21000rpm the clutch engages/rotor brake off. EDIT:the clutch engagement might be wrong he is old guy and hasnt been around one in some time. but you shouldn't HAVE to run the pump for 20 second as this could lead to a hot start of the engine if it had just shut down. The one big thing i see wrong with the start is the YELLOW lever should be forward to the "start" position before the engine boost pump is turned on or the engine would not be primed as fuel would be turned off. unless my logic for this lever is wrong? OldE24 Posted May 7, 2016 Author Posted May 7, 2016 (edited) it doesnt help to only find a manual that is SA 341 with the STOP, RUN, START switch. http://www.avialogs.com/en/aircraft/france/aerospatiale/as341gazelle/flight-manual-gazelle-sa-341g.html it's a simplified start but i am just trying to understand the logic. i think i have figured it out the handle you can not move is the fuel shutoff? and the yellow is a condition lever from idle to 100%? or is there a fuel shutoff somewhere i have not found yet? it sucks i can not play right now as i am not at home so i cant even get a good idea the handle BLACK with Yellow stripes the fuel cutoff?? i was trying to find the marking of what all the levers do, but apparently they didn't put it in the flight manual. Mt5_Roie Posted May 7, 2016 Posted May 7, 2016 Well according to the actual manuals I've seen (and working on transcribing the checklist from) the fuel level starts from a rear position and is moved forward. As far as I understand, when you turn on the fuel pump it just pumps the fuel to where it can be injected into the engine. The starter then injects the fuel into the system when it's turned on. Sort of like when you turn on your car and its just at idle. Then moving the fuel flow forward (like pressing the gas pedal) adds more fuel into the engine making it go faster. So if the engine was just shut off, the fuel would most likely already be in the lines, and you wouldn't need to pump it for 20 seconds. As for the fuel shutoff, it's not modeled but it's right of the fuel flow lever. We did have a request to model it and it has been added to the master sheet. Coder - Oculus Rift Guy - Court Jester
OldE24 Posted May 7, 2016 Author Posted May 7, 2016 (edited) ok yeah then that would make more scene there just has to be a way to shut down other then the switch. so engine shutdown is just a matter of turning the 3Position switch back to the neutral/middle position? irl you would have to pull the switch out and move it over a detente. if all it takes to turn off the engine is flipping that switch would it be possible to add a DUAL action one to pull the switch out and the other button to move it up/down?? EDIT: Thanks sweep for checking. so the 3 position switch if you have the engine yellow levers full forward and move it to the middle position the engine stays running but IRL if i am not mistaken this WOULD shut the engine down as i stated above it would be a dual action to keep you from turning it off???EDIT:unless there is some safety switch built in. the 2 ways you should be able to shut the engine off is by turning the 3 position switch to the middle position or the fuel cutoff lever *black w/yellow stripes* and it should not matter if the fuel condition lever *yello* is forward or back? right now if the yellow lever is forward the engine will not shut down. yeah idle is 19000 to 21000 and normay clutch engagement is 29000. also of interesting note on windy days it says on spooling the rotor system to watch your head as when the droop stop come in the blade can get to about 3 feet from the ground.
