Hi all

I'm using the P-51, few questions below :

is there an online server that I can join to take off and fly around with possible other people also flying around ( no missions etc , just a "live" virtual environment ) ??

is it simple to setup own server ( I have a deadicated separate PC for this ) for myself / anyone else to join ???

is voice talk built into DCS to communicate ??

sorry if these are stupid questions

kind regards

Adrian

Hey, if you just want to fly around with other people then you should head over to Virtual Aerobatics server; if you want to fight in the Mustang, then Dogs of War may be a suitable destination.

You can set up your own server, you just need to open port 10308 in both UDP and TCP protocols on the internal IP of the hosting machine, then head over to DCS multiplayer to set up your server and launch it.

There is no built in voice comm system for DCS but TeamSpeak is a great tool if set up correctly; there are also a few good mods out there that you should try.

I have a quick question on this subject as well: I don't know much about how servers work, but if I just use my main computer, not a dedicated server, and host a session, about how many players could I expect to connect to me reliably? In other words, how many player slots should I restrict the session to in order to preserve reliability. These are my computer and internet specs as best I remember them:

Alienware M18X

i7

16GB ram

SSD HD

nVidia 540M (x2)

100mbps down

I think around 10-15mbps up

Am I missing anything important for figuring this out?

Thanks!

DCS acting as a server pushes more data out then it receives so having a good steady upstream is more important. 10Mbps up should allow you to host like 15-20 fairly comfortably.

Ok, thanks for the reply. That's great news. Most of the missions I host are made for about 8 players 10 max.

ED have stated in the past that the max limit for a stable environment is 16 players. 15-20 upload should cover this.

Excellent. I know my ISP is sending me something like 150+ down and 15-20 up, but my router is holding me at like 94 down and 10-15 up. Need a fancy new router to open that up.
