Hi all,

Been reading through a lot of threads on opentrack; facetracknoir etc. Please can one of the aces here help setup opentrack and others through a step-by-step guide? I am sure other noobs like me would be super grateful!

Thanks in advance for taking time out to do so. Would really appreciate it.

Best regards!

Hi Len62...will be using the standard built-in camera on my alienware 17 r3...what exactly is a clip? The 3 led pointer thing that one uses with Trackir 5? Does one need it for opentrack? Sorry a complete noob.

You don't need a clip per se, but the current version of opentrack has the facetracker disabled. You can print and use the "Aruco" marker that gets mounted near you forehead and the camera will track it. I've only really used OT with the 3 pt clip, mine is homemade and works fine. Information for other tracker methods w/OT is sparse too say the least. Try a google/youtube search for opentrack/aruco/headtracker and you should find something to help you out. Also, browse through the wiki too get some more information.

Here is that paper marker:

But I highly recommend to make a 3 LED Tracker on your own. It might be much more accurate.

So:

1. Think about the concept. 3 points on the side for headset or 3 points on the to of your head. Here is mine. Ugly as hell but runs almost accurate as trackir.

Higher distances makes the tracker more accurate!

2. Get a good webcam. At least 1280x720 and 30fps.

3. On the Selector "Tracker" click on "Point Tracker 1.1". Then click on "..." next to it. Select your model and enter all needed distances between the leds. Then make a calibration as shown in this video. It might need a few trials.

4. On the selector "protocol" use "freetrack 2.0 enhanced. The click on "..." next to it. For DCS I recommend to use only ONE protocol at same time. Both makes the camera flip around from time to time. So use freetrack and hide trackir OR vice versa.

5. Select the "Accela" as filter and click on "..." next to it. Then enter the values

Smoothing: 0ms

Rotation sensitivity: 1.2°

Rotation deadzone: 0°

Translation sensitivity 1.2mm

Translation deadzone 0mm

6. If all this done, you should see that it already works. But at the end you still have to play a bit with the curves in "Mapping" and with the point extraction. But you have to try this on your own. There is no ONE right way.

Probably wasn't intentional. Thanks for adding to the thread and including that "Aruco" marker video. Like you, I have a homemade 3 pt clip that works extremely well with OT.
