What's with that yellow HUD???

This is bugging me so long that I have to ask someone:

Why does almost every movie featuring Russian a/c have a YELLOW HUD?

Do real life russian a/c have yellow HUDs by default or what?

I know that the color can be changed but it was in my understanding that green is standard.

AFAIK it is indeed green in real life, yes.

 

It could be nostalgia hard at work - Flanker 2 had a yellow HUD for the flyable aircraft, but for what reason I'm not entirely sure.

I don’t understand the HUD color fetish either, I only use green but you can change it so I guess it’s what ever melts your butter..

Green in day mode, orange in night mode.

As I understand it, IRL they cannot be changed. The colour that is. It's always green, except the Su25?

You also have to realise real life land isn't as bright as the land in lomac, even when it's 45* outside, and it's f-in hot and everybody is sweaty and the a/c is down, they still use the green hud color, because it's visible, in lomac it's not.

 

And since the HUD is an overpriced CRT screen (recent models use lcd, maybe oled tech), it can show most of the colors of the rainbow without any kind of filters or other hardware modifications.

And since the hud on the ka-50 really looks like a hud (ie focus=infinite), it's better on the eyes too, but, here comes the but, it won't matter how realistic the hud is at 10fps. :|

 

Better start saving for that NVIDIA "you can play all the games that come out this century for only 13000 dollar" monster.

I once used this:

R-255 G-171 B-1

But it didn't seem nice to me...

 

And try this one I call Ice Blue:

R-1 G-172 B-255

Great in dark, awful in daytime :)
