Anyone know how the GBU12/HUD will work with buddy lasing? I'm assuming there will be some type of pipper/release indicator in the HUD. The HUD isn't very sophisticated though so I'm not sure how it's going to work. I didn't see info for that in the manual, just skimmed through it though.

Why would you need special HUD symbology for that? I would rather assume, you just drop them like dumb iron bombs. The lasing only makes sure that the weapon does not land 100 feet from the target, but right on top of it.

Flagrum should be right. For the F-5 the GBU-12 is just a dumb iron bomb and doesn't need any special HUD indication. Same thing in the Mirage 2000.

The currently available (English) manual just says: GBU-12 Release WIP.

But like Flagrum and QuiGon, I'd be surprised if the sight (it's not really a "HUD") had special symbology for GBUs. Maybe there'll be extended bombing tables allowing for higher release altitudes than what's currently available in the manual, albeit with lower accuracy making them only acceptable for guided bombs.

Thanks for the responses! I guess I was just assuming that if a ground force was lasing a target for me to attack then I would need to know where the target is with some type of symbology so that the bomb release would be at least near the intended target. Maybe they would just use a talk on type attack and the jtac would give the pilot an idea of where the target is based off of landmarks or coordinates? I guess if the pilot was picking the target and requesting a ground lase it'd be easier but that just seems odd to me.

That's how it works. The pilot needs to pick up the target by himself and coordinate with the laser provider (that's already the case in DCS with the M2000). In a CAS mission it would usally be the JTAC who gives targets to the pilot and talk him on them. In a strike mission the targets would usally be pre-briefed and lasing would be provided by another aircraft (buddy-lasing).

Edit: nomdeplume made a good remark about the HUD. Like he said it's not really a HUD, just a pipper. So there is no computed bomb delivery (CCIP/CCRP) if I'm not mistaken. You will have to follow specific attack profiles, taken form the dive bombing tables to drop bombs accurately.
