hughlb Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 I'm building a home cockpit out of PVC and hardwood. After a trip to my local hardware store, I noted that there is little difference in flex between 50mm and 40mm PVC pipe, at lengths of 1 meter (which is greater than any of my individual segments). Is there any reason to go with 50mm, or would 40mm be sufficient? I've modelled a rough design of the basic frame below. | Windows 10 | I7 4790K @ 4.4ghz | Asus PG348Q | Asus Strix 1080TI | 16GB Corsair Vengeance 2400 DDR3 | Asrock Fatal1ty Z97 | Samsung EVO 850 500GB (x2) | SanDisk 240GB Extreme Pro | Coolermaster Vanguard S 650Watt 80+ | Fractal Design R4 | VirPil T-50 | MFG Crosswind Graphite | KW-908 JetSeat Sim Edition | TrackIR 5 | [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Mr_Burns Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 There doesn't look to be anywhere where flex woul be an issue. The vert sections won't flex and a quick look appears any weight is. Transferred directly to a vertical tube.
Thick8 Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 You'll be fine with the 40mm. Use screws at the joints instead of glue so you can change it or update it at a later date.
