F/A-18C payload

Hello!

There is one very visible bug to me in the Hornet. This concerns the AIM-120C AMRAAM missile and how it is hung on the wing pylons in game. At the moment it is hung as a single missile with the fins of the missile pointing inside the pylon.

First of all AMRAAM can NOT be hung on the SUU-63 wing pylon directly. The pylon itself has only ability to hold an external tank or a bomb directly locked to it's BRU-32 locking mechanism. As a sidenote only the inner hardpoints 3, 5(center) and 7 can hold a fuel tank and feed it to the plane. Outer hardpoints 2 and 8 are "dry". Only F/A-18E has 2 pairs of "wet" pylons each wing + centerline with one 3rd "dry" outside them.

To hang an AMRAAM you need 3 items: one LAU-115 rack with two LAU-127 rails attached to it on both sides. These rails can hold AIM-9's, AIM-7's and AIM-120's. The combo of LAU-115 and LAU-127's is hung into the SUU-63/BRU-32 and coupled to the plane via the pylon using a wire bundle.

I wish this could be corrected as it prevents pretty effectively using for example correct loadouts for A2A. Pictures of the launchers attached to a F/A-18 can be found in public sources very easily.

Sorry if I sounded nitpicky, but making a great product even better can't be bad ;)

good stuff! Hey, isnt it wrong as well that the AIM-120 can be carried on the wingtip in lock on?

Indeed

S!

That is true, F/A-18C can not carry any other missiles in wintip stations (LAU-7/7B) than AIM-9-series. Depending on user the coolant for the seekerhead is in a separate bottle inside the LAU-7 or inside the missile itself. Most usual cooling medium is argon or nitrogen. :pilotfly:
