Week 7 Status Report

New Dawn

Though it was expected to be overcast and the bombers not able to fly, the Allies prepared their bombers anyways. On this very early morning, low and behold, the weather had indeed broken up into partly cloudy skies and the bombers were on their way. Strategists had determined that a dawn raid would catch the Axis off guard and also the low light conditions help them slip through the defenses. It apparently worked as the Axis had some mechanical issues and troubles working around their damaged airfield in the dark. So, fewer fighters were put into the air and with the unpredictability of the Allied attacks, they were spread thin looking for them. The plan worked out so well, the bombers made it to their target completely unopposed. The flak units on the other hand did see them and proceeded to open up. It was as thick as anyone has seen in this war yet, yet they kept on pushing through, each one taking a pounding.

Moderate damage was reported at the Axis industrial centers as the Axis fighters finally found their prey. They went after the Allied fighters with a vengeance and were successful in knocking a few down. The Allied scattered, dragging the 109’s and 190’s away from the bombers. Air defences were also still feverishly trying to drive the attackers away. It was reported that they may have shot down one of their own, Commander Shadowfrost. He was able to bail out of his flaming wreck just in time. I am sure he will have a talk with the air defence commander about it.

The Axis commenced their attack again on schedule as they have for most of this war. Though they themselves seemed more prepared this time around with a few tricks up their sleeves as well. After multiple head on attacks, even though successful, but deadly for the bombers, they sent them on a large loop to attack the industrial center from the north instead of south. This apparently caught the Allied defences off guard. The bombers made their attack run without worry of fighters and very little flak. With such little opposition, they were able to concentrate on their aim and did heavy damage to the remaining Allied industrial centers and escape with nary a scratch.

Where were the Allied fighters? It has been found out that they were on a training mission. Was there miscommunication on the time of the Axis attack? How could that be with the regular schedule they have been keeping? The Axis fighters, hungry for victory went on the hunt for the missing Allied fighters. They were found out and the Allies got more training than they expected as the Axis tore into them. The Allies were able to give as much as they got this time as each side was able to claim a pair of fighters.

The resources are getting so wiped out at this point, particularly for the Allies, it does not seem as though either side can continue. Maintenance problems and being their own worst enemy, the Axis are not in any better shape. They have many aircraft left, but almost all of them are damaged and un-airworthy.

Stay tuned to see who cries uncle first.

This campaign is Excellent Shahdoh...

The fact that there are Bombers, supply convoys (but not always), Flak, AAA, Human opponents, played cards for each turn on both sides, resource management, direct and persistent resource damage, external stats...

It just brings the "Hey lets jump on a server and shoot down some WWII planes as a fighter wing" thing to a whole new level for DCS.

This really has been a Herculean effort on your part along with everyone who helped you to pull it off.

Bravo Sir :).

We need more fighter wings so we can run another campaign.

Week 7 Status Report Update!

Cease Fire!

This reporter has just found out that both commanders have agreed to a cease fire. Though it seemed the Axis had a bit of an advantage, they are not willing to risk anymore resources against the tenacious Allies. The Allied maintenance crews had pulled off some miraculous efforts in getting their damaged aircraft combat ready even though their industrial centers are down to about 25% capacity, so they are also no longer willing to lose anymore lives.

For now, this campaign is effectively over, with the Axis commander able to declare Victory by the narrowest of margins.

Axis Pilots were able to score 30 aerial victories vs the Allies 7. Thier bombers were able to take out 75% of the Allied industrial centers and maintenance facilities. The Allies were able to rebuild much of their maintenance capability, but it was not enough to help them defend against the skilled Axis pilots.

Leading Axis pilots:

BlitzPuppet in a Bf109 credited with 6.1 kills and 7 probables in 12 Sorties and only had to bail out once. - Awarded the Iron Cross

Wilzah in a FW-190 credited with 6 kills and 2 probables in only 5 sorties, never shot shot down. - Awarded the Iron Cross

Commander Shadowfrost in the Bf109 with 5.83 kills and 4 probables in 10 sorties. He did have to bail out 4 times due to tenacious air defences. - Awarded the Iron Cross

Leading Axis pilots:

Commander Bulldog with 2 kills and 10 probables in 11 sorties, bailed out once and shot down 3 other times.

SeaQuark with 1.5 kills and 2 probables in 4 sorties was shot down twice.

Rooster with 1 kill, 2 probables bailed out twice and shot down 3 other times in 8 sorties.

Though things have settled here for now, rumors afoot about trouble along the coast to the Southwest or maybe even in the plains to the Northwest.

Great first event, congrats to the Axis team for the final victory and good game from the Allies forces for giving them a run for their money.

Thanks to Shahdoh for organizing and running such an exciting event where for the first time ever in the DCS PvP scene, we saw resource management, fog of war and cards drawing thrown into the mix.

Thanks to all those who showed interest and I'm eagerly waiting for the next showdown.

If you mean the Situational Awareness site vs the google docs stats. They are lists with different perspectives. Google docs list is simply highest kill count where SA site did it by a Victory/loss ratio.

Air-to-air Rankings have been updated to include best results from this first edition of Shahdohs' WW2 Campaign!

Wilzah, BlitzPuppet, Shadowfrost, PlasticMatt, EEEStrike and Dallas48 seem to have stolen the show, leading Axis Forces to victory after a 7 week long war of attrition where both sides were pushed to the limit.
