FlightJockey Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 I haven't played DCS World in over 10 months due to college. I recently got a VIVE and decided to test it with DCS World and finally noticed that the application does not start. I have it installed on steam with three modules: Flaming Cliffs 3, F86F, and MiG-15bis. I go to my library, find DCS World from the list, double click it, pick "Non-VR launch," then it says "DCS World - Running," then the "- Running" goes away and nothing happens. It does this with the VR launch option as well. I've tried verifying the integrity of the game cache and all files were validated. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, but the problem still occurs. I recently upgraded to windows 10. Could that be the problem? I would greatly appreciate any assistance that I can get.
feefifofum Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Hey Jockey, are you married to a Steam installation? I'd recommend downloading directly from ED; it will automatically import all your licenses and control profiles from your Steam version, and you'll have early access to modules and patches if desired. If you still want the Steam UI, you can add DCS as a non-steam game and launch it through your Steam library. I used to have major stability issues running on Steam (albeit a long time ago) so that's the first thing I'd personally eliminate as a potential cause for your crashes. Good luck! :) THE GEORGIAN WAR - OFFICIAL F-15C DLC
FlightJockey Posted August 8, 2016 Author Posted August 8, 2016 I'm not married to steam by all means. I just like the platform because I have most of my games there, and I like to keep them in one place. Will SteamVR still work even if I download the non-steam version? How would I go about launching a non-steam game through steam?
feefifofum Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 In library you'll see "add non steam game" in one of the drop downs, simply navigate to the .exe VR support is built in to DCS so you don't need Steam running at all, if that's what you're asking. A couple of the guys in my group use both Oculus and Vive without issue. THE GEORGIAN WAR - OFFICIAL F-15C DLC

FlightJockey Posted August 8, 2016 Author Posted August 8, 2016 So I actually got the game up and running to the title menu by going into the files and running the .exe as administrator. However, whenever I try to go into a quick mission, it'll freeze up and not allow me to do anything. Steam VR gives me a message saying "Error: Shared IPC Connect Failed After Multiple Attempts ( 308 )." I have never encountered that error before. Every other game runs fine except for DCS World. Even Elite: Dangerous, another simulator, runs completely fine, so this error message is only occurring with DCS World. That being said, here's the log files.Logs.zip
FlightJockey Posted August 12, 2016 Author Posted August 12, 2016 Can anyone help with this? It's been four days, and this problem is constantly persisting. I already posted the log files but have yet to get any feedback on the matter.
FlightJockey Posted February 15, 2017 Author Posted February 15, 2017 So, it's been about six months since this problem happened. I figured that I would update this with the solution that I found just in case someone else has a similar problem and wants to find a solution to it. I took a break from it when college started up, and recently got back to it after some time. The original problem was two fold: both with steam and the .exe. When trying to access the program through steam, the program would activate then crash to desktop with no sense of anything ever happening. When trying to access the program through the .exe, the game would consistently launch in VR mode and freeze or freeze on the initial loading screen before getting to the title screen. I tried verifying the integrity of the game cache, uninstalling and reinstalling the game, along with trying to modify the .exe file with the line "--force_disable_VR." In the end, the solution was rather quite simple. After giving up hope with steam, I completely uninstalled the game from steam and uninstalled the stand alone version as well (I had both versions on my computer since I initially started playing the game on the stand alone and then switched to steam). I restarted the computer and installed the stand alone version of the game since it was obvious that steam was not going to be cooperative. After doing a clean uninstall and then a clean install, the game magically started to work, but still launched in VR. However, this time the game didn't freeze when it got to the title screen and allowed me to uncheck the "Launch in VR" option in the in-game options. After that, I re-downloaded all of the modules that I originally purchased on steam and checked to see if everything works. It does! So I guess I'll be using and purchasing all of my modules through the stand alone version now instead of steam.
