Hello

I've got the AGM Misslies that I get in Campaign, they seem to have some crazy lockon priority for things like bridges, pylons, civilian buildings, so it basically locks on almost every piece of terrain automatically and tells me to shoot.

Is this normal, or what am I doing wrong?

Modules: A-10C I/II, F/A-18C, Mig-21Bis, M-2000C, AJS-37, Spitfire LF Mk. IX, P-47, FC3, SC, CA, WW2AP, CE2. Terrains: NTTR, Normandy, Persian Gulf, Syria

1. Ignore the "Shoot, Shoot". Betty always says that as soon as you press the lock button and you are in range for the Maverick.

2. The Mav's in the "A" model seem to prefer bigger targets to the smaller ones like vehicles. If there's a building, bridge, power line tower, etc near the target you're trying to lock, it will probably immediately lock on to the larger item. Leave it locked there and go to step 3.

3. Zoom way in on your Maverick screen. Once you are well zoomed in (I use a snap view programmed to a button to make the Mav screen full screen size when pressed and returns to the cockpit front view when the button is released) you can slew the maverick cross onto the target you want. Do not unlock the Mav and try to re-lock on the target you want, as it will probably still lock the larger object. Just slew the cross while it is locked. When it locks (jumps) onto what you want and the cross is flashing... fire.

4. If you just can't get your target locked and the Mav keeps locking a larger object, break away and take a new route in to your target from another direction.

The first mission in the A-10A campaign is kind of brutal, the mavs are interested in everything BUT the tanks you're supposed to kill.

Winston has it, positioning yourself for a relatively clear view of the targets is key.

In that first mission, I had the best luck approaching the tanks from the West and egressing Southeast to avoid the SAMs and AAA.

Not really. It was easy and I used CBU-97s for taking out the three T-72s. In from west seaboard, drop and egress south. Wags should give you the all clear.

Then decided to spice things up and chase the SA-11s up north and to northeast of Kobuleti.

These were in high contrast so I used mavericks on them.

Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.
