DCSW & Intel HD 520 -> black textures

Recommended Posts

I know the Intel graphics HD 520 is not supported by DCS, but since i am on a holiday, i have here only a surface 4 at my disposal, which contains only an intel HD 520 graphics chip embedded in the motherboard.

DCS loads fine to the menus. But when i run a mission, i get black textures. Does anybody know or have an idea how i can visualize these textures?

The simulation runs, but i get no textures... All black. I do see the smoke of the ground vehicles though...

The GPU is Below Minimum Spec,

Most Intel HD Graphics Blocks are not sufficient to run DCS, even on it's lowest settings due to Memory management.

Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2),

ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9)

3x ASUS VS248HP + Oculus HMD, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS + MFDs

Ok. Thank You for your answer. It was worth to ask. Of I would have a machine with 16GB ram, do you think the hd 520 would perform. I should try that at a shop.

Now. That being said... I run dcs world successfully on a much lower end hp laptop with 8GB ram and an intel hd 5200... A pavillion G840...

I see posts at other forums and sites with the same issues, but larger machines with process with the intel drivers...

So can somebody please run a test...

If somebody has a laptop with an intel hd 520 and +8Gb (preferred 16Gb) ram... Does dcs world run on this machine?

How much ram does your machine have? When you run dxdiag. How much gb is reported for the 520?

Yes it is. But there should not be a memory problem, since my much older intel hd 5200 has only 2GB and runs dcs world perfectly in low settings (which is perfect for my advanced moose framework scripting testing )

Mine has only 4GB memory but an i5 in the hood.

Well, my Surface Pro 4 is also an i5-6300U 4 cores at 2.5Ghz. :P

So it would be totally awesome to run DCS on a tablet... :pilotfly: And with the USB port, I can connect my warthog!

Battery would die in a matter of minutes... lol.

  • 2 weeks later...

For your information, I've done a post about this problem on the intel support communities. Maybe intel will have a look at this and may provide a fix in a next beta driver release ...

Got a response from an intel support group specialist who wants to have a look at this problem ...

Please check the underlying link. Intel asks to generate a graphics report and attach it on the post.

If somebody is reading this, and you have a HD 520 graphics processor on your board, could you help with this?

thanks in advance!

Is there any chance that DCS world would check beside the "dedicated" video memory on HD 520 video cards (on most laptops), also the "shared" video memory? This fix would help to resolve the "black textures" problem.

Laptops like a surface pro 4 don't have a BIOS that allows to increase the dedicated video memory allocated to the video card. So, for most surface 4 pcs, the dedicated video memory is about 128MB, but with a share video memory much bigger (2GB to 4GB). That causes the game to run perfectly on an HD520, but with black textures, unfortunately ...

Anybody who knows how to "fool" the DCS world game on this matter?

Forget what i wrote, i disabled the nvidia card on my laptop, and now i use the 128MB dedicated video memory using the built-in HD4600 video card. And DCS world runs flawlessly using that setup. A bit slower though, but still playable. So, the problem must be with the HD520 driver, regardless of the dedicated video memory allocated.

dear all

I am happy to say that intel solved the issue with HD 520 board. I had the same issue in my HP Elitebook. Now after installing the new drivers the textures are displayed correctly

This is great news!!!! Thanks for this message!
