slicker55 Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Does anyone know if it is possible to temporarily transfer the serial number for one of my DCS modules to let a friend try it out before purchasing his own? Of course, I want the serial back once he's decided whether he likes it or not. Legitimate suggestions only please. i7-5820K 3.30Ghz | Asus X99-S | Sapphire R290X | R7 240 | 16GB DDR4 PC4 2800MHz | Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD (OS) | Samsung 840 EVO 500GB SSD (DCS) | Noctua NH-D14 2011 Cooler | OCZ ZT 750W '80 Plus Bronze' Modular PSU | NZXT Phantom Enthusiast | 3 x IIyama Prolite E2473HDS 24" | 1 x Dell S2240T 21.5" Touch Screen | Windows 10 64-Bit | AMD Eyefinity 5760 x 1080 | TrackIR5 | TM Warthog HOTAS | MFG Crosswind 1771 | Vaicom Pro + VA (Licensed) | Sennheiser Game Zero | Honeycomb Yoke (June 2020)]
agentdarnell Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Yes you can transfer it, but once you do the other person could decide to not give it back and there is nothing you could do about it. You can go in and bind it to thier account if you have their user name or email. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
slicker55 Posted August 15, 2016 Author Posted August 15, 2016 Cheers agentdarnell ... I was a bit too early posting the question as I've just googled and discovered that, like you say, it is permitted. Thanks for answering so quickly though - appreciated. I'm just a little unsure whether the process is reversible. There is no risk attached to the proposed transaction - we are both very good friends... it's just that I want to take a look at one of his modules to determine if I wish to purchase a copy for myself and then transfer the module back to him. Do you know if we'll run into any problems reversing the transfer? i7-5820K 3.30Ghz | Asus X99-S | Sapphire R290X | R7 240 | 16GB DDR4 PC4 2800MHz | Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD (OS) | Samsung 840 EVO 500GB SSD (DCS) | Noctua NH-D14 2011 Cooler | OCZ ZT 750W '80 Plus Bronze' Modular PSU | NZXT Phantom Enthusiast | 3 x IIyama Prolite E2473HDS 24" | 1 x Dell S2240T 21.5" Touch Screen | Windows 10 64-Bit | AMD Eyefinity 5760 x 1080 | TrackIR5 | TM Warthog HOTAS | MFG Crosswind 1771 | Vaicom Pro + VA (Licensed) | Sennheiser Game Zero | Honeycomb Yoke (June 2020)]

agentdarnell Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 (edited) I have had no issues bounding multiple keys to several accounts then back. The other person would just have to bind it back to your account. But would like ed to confirm just in case. Edited August 15, 2016 by agentdarnell [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
cichlidfan Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 ED might not want to weigh in on this one, since 'loaning' of a key is probably in a bit of a gray area. In theory, there is no reason why it would not work, I just don't think ED would want to endorse/encourage the practice. Agree... I think ED would say the 'binding' system is to facilitate things like 'gifting' and a 'sale', transactions which are on a more permanent basis as opposed to swopping back and forth. That said, it is a reversible process, maybe to enable the module/s to be legitimately used by the same person across different user accounts. I don't know why someone would want to have multiple user accounts but we may become enlightened in due course if this debate continues. I also think that if people latch onto the possibility they can swop/share modules we could lose a potentially useful facility so, with this in mind, I thought I would lead by example and simply purchase the module! Now I have a shiny new MiG15Bis parked up in amidst an almost full hanger of lovely DCS planes.... and NO, you can't borrow one... firmek Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 The license transfer rights can be a bit confusing. It is not fully clear if it's possible to transfer the keys. In the first point: 1. LIMITED USE LICENCEIn consideration of you agreeing to abide by the terms of this Licence, TFC hereby grants to you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, limited right and licence to install the Program and the Documentation solely and exclusively for your personal use on the terms of this Licence. ... It states that the rights to install and licence are non-transferable. In further points we can however read: 9. LICENCE TRANSFER 9.1 You may permanently transfer all of your rights under this Licence to the recipient, provided that the recipient agrees to the terms of this Licence and you remove the Program from your computer. ... According to this point however, it seems that the licence can be transfered but only permanently to another person provided that the person doing it uninstalls the content from his hard drive. slicker55 Posted August 16, 2016 Author Posted August 16, 2016 (edited) Hi firmek, Thanks for taking the trouble to research this topic and share the results - no wonder there is confusion - para 1 and 9 clearly contradict each other and then, of course, we have the on-line facility to easily unbind and bind to a different user account although, note there is a full audit trail. I agree with your summary and furthermore, see nothing to suggest the reverse process cannot be equally applied provided each party fulfils the requirements of para 9 although some clarification regarding the contradiction between para 1 and 9 would prevent the risk of potentially contravening the EULA Again, this is just for healthy debate!
