I don't know if this has been brought up before, but this was in remembrance to the older Flanker 2.5 series. Which had an Su-27 floating in the wallpaper of the main menu. Why not have something just like that, but when you change the theme, for example you select FC3, you get an Aggressor F-15C or a Mig-29, if you select the M2000C you get a nice Mirage 2000C, or F-5E for the F-5E etc.

Also the wallpaper can change the light settings based on your computer clock and season, In the mornings it shows dawn, dusk int he evening etc, plus if it's night time or evening or dawn, it'll also show the lights of the aircraft on, even the strobes to give it a more realistic effect.

It doesn't have to be flying through clouds like the current Only DCS default theme is, it can just be sort of floating on the screen like the Su-27 from Flanker 2.0/2.5 main menu, or something like that?

It was just a suggestion for the future, not for immediate consideration.

Yes, that was understood. Front end cosmetics are a good thing to widen the appeal of the package, and I guess it'll get attention at some point.

I have a feeling though that the hard core users here wouldn't like endless movie clips holding up getting into the cockpit. I always found the key to skip all that stuff was essential.

I think the choice between expanding the capabilities of a feature like ground radar or the flight dynamics of AMRAAMs and an animated intro clip, more background music and pretty background screens is blatantly simple to make.

I would immediately consider it as a great idea ;)

Afaik, the menu can display a specific 3D scene (like the default "clouds" background), so what you describe is probably possible to some degree.

The 3D encyclopedia uses such 3D scenes in a dedicated menu.

Not that I'm a hardcore user but I prefer using a very simple background myself, as the menu is a very temporary selection tool to get where I really want.

(still a great idea though ;) )

Just imagining such a thing is awesome as is, would be insane to see it for real!
