Does anyone else also fly the light sim Wings Over Europe?

It's a sequel to the modders sim SFP1/WOV, but now with an F-15A!

How do you guys compare this F-15A with Lockon's F-15C? Here are my impressions:

To start very clear: it is no Lockon and will never be: it's a *light* sim of course.

I must say the FM is, as usual, very good and coming from Lockon you really feel at home in the F-15A, with very comparable flight performance. WOE has more inertia modelling, though, so the plane feels somewhat more "heavy". It's not AFM, but the FM "feels" very natural. I like it!

Avionics is very simplified. What I like most is the heaters: you can fly older heaters like AIM-9F and the AIM-9P. Missile kinematics is in my opinion very well done, with simple proportional navigation and seeker FOV moddelling.

Dogfighting in the clouds is fun, even more so since the clouds do affect the heater missile performance. Visual ID is difficult however, you have to look for smoke trails essentially. Guns lack precision however, but in contrast to lockon bullets and rockets have full FM, influenced by launching aircraft flight profile and crosswind.

The nice thing is you really have to be in the right flight profile against the bandit or the missile will miss. You can really feel when you shoot if it is going to kill or miss. SARH missiles however are way to performant. Chaff/flare countermeasure effects are very badly moddelled (in fact through a simplistic algoritm reducing hit probability).

In Lockon, I have the opposite experience: heaters are extremely deadly and agile, whilst SARH and AHR missiles can be fooled.

If you play single player, gameplay can be very comparable to lockon (at least in air-to-air). It is also very demanding. The real difference is on-line play. WOE just means nothing on-line. To me, this confirms the very unique position of Lockon.

WOE supports shader 2.0 and Track-ir 6DO, but sports horrible terrain and the graphics do not match those of Lockon. 3D-models are good.

Anyway, light sims are closing in. BS will set new standards but not for the real important part of air-to-air combat, I guess. I do look forward to the AIM-9P.
