(Might be useful, might not... Don't know if this is common knowledge.)

In flight, using the Autopilot turned on, Shkval on, Route Mode switch turned on, the flight path can be over-ridden by using the 4-way mini-joystick. I use it this way in Multiplayer on the 104th Phoenix's server, their pre-planned way-point(s) flight path.

I have my 4-way Shkval moves mapped to my CH Products---Pro Throttle's Mini-Joystick.

I can actually setup a Vikhr run, in flight, target an enemy position including SAM sites by locating the position in zoom-in view, acquire it and have the Laser running turned on, lock-it up beyond 8K out until I know I am locked and fire a missile or two when just out of range prior determination guess-ta-mating so when the missile impacts I am in range. It is a rather ballsy move and have countermeasures at the ready and be ready to disengage out of autopilot to manual control and fly evasive retreat, down low, and erratic, back the way I came in. And go again until I use up my missiles. Gun runs are less survivable due to having to get in much closer to be effective.

For the folks that think the Ka-50 is just a hovering "ho-hum" missile firing platform that is rather boring to fly.

Also, a way-point flight path does not need to be preset. The Ka-50 in-flight will follow the Shkval aiming point in Route mode and not necessarily need to be locked to have the copter fly to it.

Good information. Are you using the weapons override? You are able to launch and kill at around 8.7 in a hover. Sometimes 8.9 when moving forward at 290kmh. Definitely a good idea to always keep on the move when engaging!

What I tend to do is to define one optimum escape route point in the pvi800 some 13km out as a tgt point and high threat targets as tgt points as well. That way I just switch between tgt points while in route mode and press uncage to slew to the targets while the ka50 does the turning in to target and all the jazz. That way you can slew to it while the heli is still turning in, acquire and lock, and fire as soon as you are in range and can also switch back to the outbound tgt point as soon as thie missile has 2-3 seconds left till impact.

Very good for single engine operation as well. Since you can just relax while the heli keeps that translational lift going. :D

Maybe not with the latest patch(es) but I successfully killed at 10+km out, not aquiring a lock at all but override and may aim 1 target size higher. Exactly that works really good the way you described it, Route ON, Shkval ON, AutoTurntoTarget ON, WeapenOverride ON and either fast or high or both. High is HIGHLY depending on if you have air superiority, I would not go too high but rather get closer to avoid detection by enemy fighters or radar.

When I get a chance to fly on my PC I will check and see if you can still hit with good probability at beyond 10km w/o target locked.

Yes. I aim a little bit higher. Also Auto-Turn On Target is turned on and the "Moving" push-button is turned on. I don't use the auto-aiming thingy switch. Direct Heading switch (not Direct Track).

It is fun to see the enemy SAM coming at me and near-miss...
