Hey all

Just considering dipping into multi player and a thought struck me - this isn't Arma.

In Arma multiplayer, as I understand it, you can fly a chopper and be a taxi driver for other players, however there aren't any ground troop players in DCS, are there?

So what use is an unarmed Huey player in multi player?

If you go onto the Open Conflict server, you can perform rescue missions, troop transport, cargo transport, etc with the Huey and Mi-8. I actually have more fun doing that than going around blowing stuff up with the Huey, but that's just me.

Hmm ok. It's not really multiplayer though. At least not in the way I'm thinking about it - because presumably the troops you drop off/pick up are AI.

So you might as well be playing a single player mission. Or am I not understanding it right?

The troops are not other players, you are correct they are AI.

However, it is not like a single player game either.

In the case of Blue flag your team of other real players are counting on you to drop those AI troops so they can capture the position, so you are part of a team of players who must coordinate to win. You will need fighters, ground attackers and troop transports all human and all working together in order to beat another team of real humans who are trying to do the same.

Not only that, there was also a script used in previous versions of Blue Flag that let you pick up downed players which would replenish one of their few lives.

There are many roles integrated into mp missions for transport choppers but non have made it as essential, co-operative and so involving with other players than in what you'll find in Blue Flag.

Well I love nothing better than dropping off loads of people from an MH-1 in King of the Hill but what we do in the 229th is a million miles from that. We enjoy what we can do within the limitations of the game. For me getting a flight of hueys from A to B, inserting AI and moving off to a holding zone is the enjoyable side of it, adhereing to SOP working with gunships and occasional fast air takes some beating. But its whatever floats your boat personally. If your looking for something closer to the arma experience I think your wait will be a long one:)
