SA342L vs. Ka-50 Dogfigt Mayhem

Me and a few guys I met at the Open Conflict server went on for some helicopter free-for-all dogfight as the OC server was down last week.

 

 

I was flying the Gazelle (only guns and rockets allowed) using Oculus Rift. The Gazelle turns on a dime and is easy and accurate to manoeuvre and shoot, which secured me a few kills. Here're some of the best bits & hits from my perspective.

 

 

 

 

As I was on OR, I didn't check who exactly was there, but at least Alien, Hanzino, Josh22 (?) and Half-life I think..

KA-50 is excellent if you can just spot the target in first place because visibility being much more limited than other helicopters has.

 

The huge benefit that most doesn't seem to use is simply that KA-50 capability turn cannon via HMS so all you need to do is to get target to inside cannon axis limits and shoot.

 

And that puts Helicopters Combat Maneuvers easy with a speed or hover as its agility and power allows it to do just amazing maneuvers and HMS super easy to shoot down targets.

I own the KA-50 but for some reason I've never learned it. Really should do.

 

All I know is that the Gazelle seems to hold its own against it in the highly realistic manner of simulation of modern combat environment we were having ;)

 

The point about visibility is a good one. With the very close and chaotic fights we were having, I more than once escaped by being lost by the KA-50 pilots, while maintaining visual on them. Gazelle is very good for that and that's also one of the reasons why it is really good fun with OR.
