vparez Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 Hi all, I noticed quite often that I get a large X in the HUD (brake off que?) when approaching an aerial target with Magic missile selected. This happens at ranges longer than the optimal range, ie. I am not too close (I think about 3nm off). A moment after, I get the TIR que, I shoot and everything is ok. So, does anyone know why is this happening?
microvax Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 the X is G load is to high to fire magic warning. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] *unexpected flight behaviour* Oh shiii*** ! What ? Why ? What is happening ?
vparez Posted September 5, 2016 Author Posted September 5, 2016 Aaaaa, thx. Would be nice to have this info in the manual.
nomdeplume Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Aaaaa, thx. Would be nice to have this info in the manual. Yeah, they should probably mention it in the Magic II section. Near the top of page 119 would be ideal. 1

microvax Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Please, could you explain what make you think that ? Manual states somewhere that it is, or it comes when you are over 5g which is the g limit for firing magics. I mean I do not know from where else I would have known it if not from the manual. will check it latorzz. If we are at hud symbology already, what is the big number in the lower middle indicating when one STTs a target ? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] *unexpected flight behaviour* Oh shiii*** ! What ? Why ? jojo Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 With 3 digits below the circle ? It's target's aspect angle. 180 degrees is head on, 000 is tail chase. Magic firing envelope should pretty much match the M-2000 flight envelope. I have read a report of FAF Colonel stating that the Magic had been test fired at 9G on dtic.mil I will check the manual on my part as soon as I can... Mirage fanatic ! nomdeplume Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 (edited) I guess my joke was somehow too subtle? (Edit: at least one person got it! :D) It's on page 119 of the manual, under the Magic II heading. It doesn't specify the G-limitations though. Here's the full section: The R.550 Magic II is a fire and forget IR guided missile. It does not need the radar to seek and intercept a target. To use it you only need to click on the MAG button in the PCA or click on the HOTAS button. A low buzz-like sound will be heard while the seeker is searching. The buzz will be replaced by a louder tone when the seeker has locked on a target. In the HUD, the seeker symbol will move towards the position of the locked target. If the target is also locked on radar, a smaller circle will appear inside the seeker search area circle indicating that the target is in the NO ESCAPE zone. A no shoot cross will appear when the G-load is too high to fire the missile.Sniped! And... If we are at hud symbology already, what is the big number in the lower middle indicating when one STTs a target ? Doesn't seem to be in the manual, but I think it was mentioned on the forums. Target aspect angle. 0 = target is heading away, 180 = target is coming head-on. Edited September 5, 2016 by nomdeplume
vparez Posted September 5, 2016 Author Posted September 5, 2016 Thx, my mistake, I missed it. I guess the manual as it is right now is not an easy read from cover to cover... I guess I like pictures too much ;) Just on p118 there is the picture of the gun arming switch operation... I would have been totally lost without it!

OMG sometimes I am so freakin overcomplicating stuff. thx. And nomdeplume already sniped us both. :DD [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] *unexpected flight behaviour* Oh shiii*** ! What ? Why ? What is happening ?
