Guram Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Hi, has anyone tried this USB powered LED Monitor for DCS WORLD, like for cougar MFD accompaniment ? or any other instrumentals exported to it ? Thanks ! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B013XFJKGI/ref=psdc_1292115011_t2_B00CMKOVMO https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-ThinkVision-LT1421-Portable-Monitor/dp/B005L2NA54/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1473664757&sr=1-1&keywords=lenovo+usb+powered+monitor
EntropySG Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Hi I have the one in your second link (Lenovo). Its great with Helios and with the cougar MFDs. You need however figure out a way how to arrest it, the stand it comes with is way too unstable so you will push it around when you press the MFD buttons. We built a simple wooden casing to hold it, then its perfect. http://i.imgur.com/bvj0xbh.jpg [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Aginor Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 I use two of these and I am pretty happy with them: http://www.lilliputuk.com/monitors/usb/um80/ I use Helios to get the A-10C's MFCDs there, including their buttons (I use the touch variant) and a collapsable CDU screen to make inputs. Icefalcon Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 I went with HDMI monitors after comparing the two type for a long time. A key thing to remember with USB is they need drivers, and the refresh rate and quality just isn't the same because USB just isn't designed for this as part of it native spec. The way I have mine set up is with 2 8" mini monitors that are VESA mounted using a small articulating arms that clamp on to my desk https://amzn.com/B00EQ7HTG6 . The Cougars are velcroed on the monitors, and I can use the VESA arm to position it to the perfect spot for reaching.
Guram Posted September 13, 2016 Author Posted September 13, 2016 Thank you very much for info and feedback ! will see what to get , Lilliputs look nice

cichlidfan Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 Just remember that USB monitors will have far more impact on FPS than those connect to the video card. Data must go from the video card back to the USB bus and then to the USB monitor. This introduces an inherent lag which, depending on the overall speed of your system, may be significant. So if I will have 2 Lilliput monitors for MFD it will significantly drop main monitor FPS? how much ? even if I have GTX1080? Thank you
cichlidfan Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 (edited) How much is very system dependent. The only person that could answer that is someone with the exact same config. This can be affected by everything from the CPU all the way down to the USB chipset and drivers being used. If you have a 1080 then the GPU side of the house should be quite good. If the rest of the system is fairly decent, you might not consider the impact significant (i.e. much less than a 5 percent drop). The only way you will know for sure is to try it, as there aren't benchmarks for this kind of thing. Flight simmers do stuff that would never occur to a 'normal' gamer. ;) Edited September 16, 2016 by cichlidfan ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! USB monitors for this kind of things are very convenient
Aginor Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 I haven'tnoticed a significant drop in FPS with my two Lilliputs, and I have a 770. You are on the safe side I guess. :) DCSW weapons cheat sheet speed cheat sheet
Aginor Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 (edited) Forum hiccup made me double post.... One additional thing so this post is good for something: Check if there are decent drivers for Win10! I assume there are, but better safe than sorry. The rest of your specs are equal or better than mine in every regard. Edited September 16, 2016 by Aginor DCSW weapons cheat sheet speed cheat sheet

cichlidfan Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 Another important consideration, regarding potential FPS impact (btw, I agree that you probably won't see much with your rig) is that although you might be able to measure a slight drop, it is probably something that you would never realize without monitoring it. andyc Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 guys i know this is an old thread - just wondering if anyone has any updated recommendations. I am pondering configuring a triple monitor setup then having 2 x mfd's and possibly a tedac - flying the apache. Now my nvidia 470 super can drive 3 dp's and a hdmi (tedac) so i am pondering usb monitors for the mfd's and seems they need to be 10.4 inch - the lilliputs are 10.1 or 14" it seems - anyone got any other recommendations ?
