Thisdale Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 Hey guys, Been toying around with the idea of weekly PvP mission-based server events. Similar to what we were doing about 10 years ago in IL2 Forgotten Battles. However, i'm trying to figure out what's the possible load the game can sustain, player wise. Seems certain servers go up to 60, while others easily crash after 10-12... Any guidelines/help? Perhaps external server service (Amazon or other?) http://www.youtube.com/konotani Computer Specs: Z97X-gaming Mobo 4670k i5 24G DDR3 GTX 1080 Asus PG278Q Rog Swift 27-INCH G-SYNC Valve Index Thrustmaster Warthog Fanatec Clubsport Pedals (used as Rudders) Thrustmaster T300 Arcantera Wheel Obutto R3volution rig
razo+r Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 if your server specs are enough good to handle them and the internet connection is good enough, it should work
Thisdale Posted September 20, 2016 Author Posted September 20, 2016 if your server specs are enough good to handle them and the internet connection is good enough, it should work I would think so. But is there an "official chart" ? Lets say i want to support 124 players? What do i need? http://www.youtube.com/konotani Computer Specs: Z97X-gaming Mobo 4670k i5 24G DDR3 GTX 1080 Asus PG278Q Rog Swift 27-INCH G-SYNC Valve Index Thrustmaster Warthog Fanatec Clubsport Pedals (used as Rudders) Thrustmaster T300 Arcantera Wheel Obutto R3volution rig
dooom Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 i recall hearing 8 players per MB upload was a good rule of thumb - unfortuantely I cant find the thread anymore. so... at 8 players per mb then 120 players would feasibly require 120/8= 15 MB upload? (absolutely no science behind that math ... just a foggy recollection of something somebody said sometime ago) I used to have a 2MB upload connection and seemed to be pretty stable when testing DoW missions. also keep in mind the bandwidth requirements for any additional services like simple radio... i dont know what it needs per player but it would likely be a small draw too on the server pipe. blaueente Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 I assume a hell of a machine ... there are no exact values that can be told. U can approximately calculate and test the load and stress that 10 players do and than extrapolate that to 124 players. Be sure to get a ssd(better a dedicated ssd just for dcs), lots of ram(32+) and the fastest cpu that is build by man, otherwise i doubt the server can handle that much load. 1 Gbit internet or more should be obvious mfg ente
Thisdale Posted September 20, 2016 Author Posted September 20, 2016 Well that's just it tho. I'm looking at more official server services... the links that run LOL or OverWatch. (yes those are paying servers). But i still need valid information, which i can't seem to find in official DCS communiqué. http://www.youtube.com/konotani Computer Specs: Z97X-gaming Mobo 4670k i5 24G DDR3 GTX 1080 Asus PG278Q Rog Swift 27-INCH G-SYNC Valve Index Thrustmaster Warthog Fanatec Clubsport Pedals (used as Rudders) Thrustmaster T300 Arcantera Wheel Obutto R3volution rig
blaueente Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 I dont think that there are any official Hosters for DCS. U have to rent a Root or something else and do the administration by urself. for 124 players DO NOT USE A VM ;)
dooom Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 hang tight on the server hardware - rumor has it official dedicated server exe might appear soon™ from DCS.
