Again, spoiler alert! See below.

I'm having two problems with this so far. First, I'm having issues locating the infantry targets after the prison break...they're like a needle in a haystack, green on green as the light is fading, and can't seem to get a bead on them. So far I just rely on the flight to scrap them, but that feels pretty lame.

Second, and far more important, I cannot keep eyes on that damn Hind! It moves a lot faster than I can slew my TGP to keep it in the visual field, and yet my Hog is too fast to trail it...Obviously I'd like to orbit it from above, but all it takes is one split second of my aircraft masking the TGP camera and, BAM, no more Hind...mission fail. Any pointers on this? Maybe some TGP tricks I'm unaware of, or should I just go all visual next time?

I used the F5 " nearby aircraft view" to make following easier...

Is that cheating?

Well it's singleplayer, so it doesn't hurt anybody, does it? You decide how realistic and difficult you want to make it for yourself.

I've never flown multiplayer. Are the F views not used, by agreement?

I admit I use them often. They offer some of the coolest DCS eye candy as well as tremendously help with situational awareness...which I find very challenging!

In multiplayer they are usually disabled. That is because 3rd person perspective makes SA too easy and denies many tactics and conditions under which pilots had to fly. Best example, the Me109 has bad visibility to the back. Compare that to the Fw190 and you will get much better SA

If external view is on, both airplanes loose on depth when it comes to the aspect of acquiring and keeping track of the target.

In singleplayer you do what you want.

Good feedback, thanks! I'll give it another go.

By the way, this campaign is fantastic!

I flew the mission yesterday and had the same problem with the Hind - had it spot-on in the TGP as it first landed, then after it took off it put on its Klingon Cloaking Device and was never to be seen again. Or so it thought... :D

So I kinda cheated. Told #2 to engage bandits, closely watched the TAD, et voila, the wedding cake appeared right on the Hind. Hook, make SPI, Slave all to SPI, now my TGP has the Hind and I make sure it's tracked in point mode - perfect. #2, rejoin formation, done. Worked like a charm (at the risk of #2 killing the Hind if I don't recall him quickly enough - but flying blind for hours and then RTB without mission success would have been worse, so it was a risk worth taking IMO). :smartass:

Agreed, I'm loving it as well, awesome job!

Thanks yurgon. Great tip.

Watched a video where NVGs were used to spot laser from the UAV that was continuously tracking the chopper. What do you think of that?

All this is great stuff. This campaign forces you to think outside the box a bit. Most fun I've had with the hog in years!

Wow, great idea!

Was that a video from this particular mission? I'd have thought it's not dark enough and NVGs would probably just show a green mess where the pointer would be impossible to spot, so I didn't even try that.
