Raven434th Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 I see there is a flaps up/down key(which toggles the position)...there's a flaps up key (which takes the flaps all the way up...and there's a flaps landing position key(which takes them all the way down.So how do you put them to takeoff position???We used to be ale to press a key that takes them to the halfway point(take off) and when pressed again took them to the up position but not anymore. What happened? DarkFire Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 I'm guessing that neither the MiG-29 nor the Su-27 actually have multi-position flaps, hence the mechanical devices indicator shows them as either up or down. Seaeagle Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 (edited) Photo of MiG-29 flap control panel attached. It is located on the left console and has three pull-buttons for the following positions: "посадка"(landing) "взлет" (take-off) "убраны"(cleared - up) We used to be ale to press a key that takes them to the halfway point(take off) and when pressed again took them to the up position but not anymore. What happened? There is no half-way position for the flaps - they are either up or down. However, there are two types of flaps - leading edge flaps(also known as "slats") and trailing edge flaps. During take-off or landing, both are employed and the selected button sets the overall configuration for the respective purpose. When the trailing edge flaps are retracted, the leading edge flaps are operating automatically(controlled by the FCS). So I am guessing that it was a similar deal as with other MiG-29 features - i.e. that still being at FC level of simulation, the half-way flap position was removed because it was an unrealistic feature, while the complexity of the actual functionality wasn't implemented in its place. You have three positions. Up Down Landing The up-Down is to switch between normal operations. i7-8700k, 32GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 2x 2080S SLI 8GB, Oculus Rift S. i7-8700k, 16GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 1080Ti 11GB, 27" 4K, 65" HDR 4K.
Ironhand Posted October 16, 2016 Posted October 16, 2016 You have three positions. Up Down Landing The up-Down is to switch between normal operations. However, I see no difference between the positioning of flaps/slats in the "LShift-F" landing position and the Down side of the "F" toggle...for the Su-27, that is. Didn't look closely at the MiG's. Seaeagle Posted October 16, 2016 Posted October 16, 2016 There isn't any difference :) . Dedicated commands were introduced in order to accommodate pit builders, as a toggle function is impractical for external devices.
ShuRugal Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 With the Flanker, I honestly don't bother with flaps for takeoff. I rotate at 250, and wheels-up occurs around 300, regardless of flap setting. For landing, the flaps help you get slower before the onset of tip-stall, but i think all they really do on this bird is act as spoilers. The real work for airfoil-efficiency alteration is done by the slats, and those are automagic.
