F/A-18C crash at Twenty Nine Palms

The pilot is thankfully safe. Not a good year for the Legacy Hornet and crashes.

He ejected from the runway, so Zero / 120 Ejection.

 

Legacy Hornets are falling apart, it's really the USMC's own Stubbornness to blame,

 

They wanted to ride out the F-35 Delay w/ the Already Aging F/A-18C/Ds.

 

Pulling the Hornets out of AMARC and taking them to Cecil to get retrofitted to the F/A-18C+ Standard isnt going to give them more than maybe 5 years.

Thanks for the info. It's sad to see beacause our pilots deserve better. The life of a fighter pilot is dangerous enough and now they have to worry about unreliable and unsafe aircraft. It looks like the USMC is having the same issue with the Harrier as well. The USMC really put a lot of faith in the F-35 and may be wishing that they purchased some Super Hornets.

 

Hopefully the DCS Hornet will be in better condition for us virtual aviators. :smilewink:

almost half the Fleet is grounded and in dis-repair, and the training hours are cut so much when you add in that half the jets simply aren't airworthy, it makes what training time they have even more limited.

It's going to be a rough few more years unfortunately until the F-35 comes out in large enough numbers to take up the slack. The Navy's even chipping in a portion of their F-35 buy for the next few years to the Marines.

The USMC Changed their Order from All F-35Bs to a few Sqns of F-35Cs to continue to provide a Role with USN deployments.
