Hi,

I am relatively new to the F-86 and had a quick question about the gun selector switch on the left side. In particular under what conditions would it be advisable to to use a single pair of guns or all 6?

Do you use 2 in dog fights to have more opportunities to put rounds on target?

Do you use 6 for large targets (i.e. il-78) to do more localized damage or go with 2 to spread it out?

Same question with ground attacks?

Thanks for any insight/advice

Regards,

Brett

I was asking the same question myself and arrived to the conclusion that I could not find any reasons for other than all, 6 guns setting.

There must have been a real reason for it - otherwise I assume no one would build a selector. My bet would be conserving the ammo.

Though the issue is that effectiveness of .50 caliber rounds in DCS is rather poor. Even the damage dealt (or rather not) by all of 6 guns firing simultaneously can be at best considered not consistent.

Thanks,

I think the majority of the issue was my skill level with the Sabre. I had trying the intercept mission at NTTR and always ran out of ammo prior to brining down the il-78. Did some practicing and I was able to take out all four engines in one pass from the 6 :-)
